Cuttings in the Spring

I'm curious if one could take cuttings in the spring after a rose has broken dormancy. Has anyone produced viable cuttings from the spring? I hear that fall is usually the best time of year to take cuttings, but I do love to push the envelope.

The usual time to take cuttings is right after the rose has bloomed. Deadheading cuts off semi-hardwood, which is traditionally considered the right type for roses.

Yep, I do mine (semi-ripe wood) around mid to end of June.....and only do hardwood cuttings in autumn.

Right after my first flush in June is when I take my cuttings to do soil rooting. Those are soft wood cuttings. Hardwood cuttings do better with the burrito method, from what i understand, and that's why they are taken in the fall on older wood.

I have the best luck in May/June also.
