Oh yes. Yes, it's worth it. Very beautiful. I would like to hear from other forum members on whether it needs better than average treatment for a Gallica. Mine grows reasonably well but in a favored spot and has hesitated about going own root. It may finally be putting out the first suckers this year. Nor have I ever been able to propagate it from cuttings. A most glorious rose, though. Melissa

I don't have it, but all I've read of it indicates that it's one of the last Gallicas to bloom -- which is good, thereby extending interest in a bed of Gallicas. Reviews of it from several sources I've read all rate it highly. The only reason I don't have it is because I had room for only a few, and this one didn't fit into the color scheme I had in mind. :-) ~Christopher

Not being able to tell you anything about the rose, since I've never grown it, I'll link to the Wikipedia article mentioning the family after members of which (most probably the two brothers Alexander and Demetrios) both this rose and some places in the US have been named. You can link to them from that article. Nik

In a word, yes!

Ipsilante ia one of the better Gallicas in regards to nicely arranged petals in the flowers plus the attractive shading. Don't forget that Gallicas are not fussy as to the soil they grow in. That is one of their virtues..
