Please advise: Which online nursery should I get Bolero from?

Could somebody please give me an opinion on where I could get the rose Bolero from? I see Regan Nursery carries it but I've had different experiences with different nurseries and am hesitant to put in an order.. Also, if anyone has grown Leonardo Da Vinci.. is it really a climber? Thanks in advance!

RE: Please advise: Which online nursery should I get Bolero from?

Hi Nadia,
I have Leonardo da Vinci and love it. Mine came from Eurodesert (Morongo Valley, CA) in 2011 when that nursery was closing, and it was a big, full-sized plant. I'm not sure where Eurodesert got it, possibly from Palatine, but I can ask Cliff Orent.

Funny story how I came to get this rose. I was wandering the aisles at Eurodesert in a daze (which is a typical reaction on seeing the thousands of roses growing on that property) actually.;) I'd tried to organize my buying into purposeful trips. On that visit I was looking for yellow roses. However, I'd spotted this one rose in an earlier trip in the floribunda beds with the most attractive and unusual foliage (dense all the way down the canes to the ground) and peppered down the canes in old-fashioned pink flowers packed with petals. It drew my attention again--what IS that rose??? The combination was unique so I bought this pink rose on my yellow rose shopping trip!

And LdV he is a big one. I had a chance at last year's Great Rosarians program at the Huntington to talk to a representative from Star Roses which markets LdV in this country. He told me they were planning on re-releasing it since he agreed with me that it was a very fine rose--however he thought it would do better if marketed as a climber than a floribunda as it gets much larger than what people expect of a floribunda and wants to climb.

Blooms profusely and for months on end. No disease here nor did he have any at Eurodesert (which really is in a desert location). Mine is in full sun as he was at Eurodesert. Thrives in the blasting heat of the summer!

Bolero!

Hi Nadia:
S&W Greenhouse in Tennessee has Bolero, plus a decent inventory of other roses that may interest you. Good Prices & Excellent Service. Check them out, I have ordered many times from them and they have been great. They ship in February only, so if you live up north, you can pot the roses up and keep them in a sheltered location

Melissa and Jay: Thank you both!!! Ideally, I would like to get both LDV and Bolero but I'm afraid I won't have room for LDV because I became obsessed with Red Eden Climber and bought 5 of them. Then I bought 2 Clematis.. I am way too impulsive in the face of such beauty.. how could I resist? Anyways.. I'm not sure I have room for another climber type but I am very tempted to somehow make room for LDV! Especially since I'm pretty much retiring my dream of growing the OGRs..

We're the lucky ones, Nadia, getting to experience your enthusiasm. How funny...I bought Bolero at Lowe's a couple of weeks ago. And I saw that green rose on Facebook tonight. Quite stunning. Hope you get the ones you'll love.

Sherry,

Thank you :-) I can almost smell the roses on your page. Oh how I would love to grow a Bourbon!

I was glad to see Leonardo da Vinci discussed. I bought mine from Hortico a few years ago - thought it was a floribunda, then read it was a climber. It always seemed like it wanted to climb to me.....so I moved it thinking it was really a floribunda. Now....I need to move it again by a fence so it can climb. Does it have thick or pliable canes as it ages? Does anyone have photos? Thanks!

I ended up getting Bolero locally. Now, I'm looking to get Rouge Royal and Liv Tyler. I can't find them locally. Online, only Growquest seems to have them both. Edmunds has only one of them... so does SW. I had heard bad things about Growquest. Anybody order from them before? Ideally I'd like to get both roses from the same place to save on shipping..
