Rose discussions and computer access off topic

I am having computer problems, and need to look for a new one. I love reading this site, and would like good access for posting roses, and moving around to other forums as I please.

I do not need a computer for business reasons except for writing an occasional paper or quiz for my classroom.

I can retire from teaching whenever I please, and do not need a computer for another family member.

I think I want a laptop, but have no idea what to purchase.

My husband went to Wal Mart to get his, and is trying to learn all about it. I want easy.

Do any of you have suggestions? I definitely do not want to struggle with viruses or worms. Price is a factor, or I would go to a store, and take their advice.

Thanks,
Sammy

I buy all of my computers from a trusted Computer Repair shop.

If you can find a small mom & pop type computer repair (they tend to be more honest, in my experience), go and talk to them about what you need.

Even if you don't buy from them, they typically give very useful advice.

Why bother with a full sized computer, since it sounds like you don't need all that has to offer. An iPad might be a much better option for you. It's one of the most portable, flexible devices available.

Thanks, trospero. I agree, but my son is giving me his tablet. We finally drove over to Wal Mart, and bought a lap top.

I don't know how to be wise about electronics. I purchased phone that I thought was all that I needed, and now realize that in my school, I really needed a smart phone or something more high tech so that I can receive communications from my students. Frankly, I think that is the worst idea they have ever come up with for teachers, but nobody hears me.

Theoretically, as a teacher, you know the value of research and the importance of up-to-date information. Hopefully, you applied those skills before jumping in and buying a laptop at Walmart.

We bought 2 Dell laptops at Costco Autumn 2012. We chose to purchase at Costco since they will take them back with no questions asked. This saved us from having to purchase expensive insurance.
They work fine. We also have one Microsoft Surface tablet which I use as a Kindle. Great to take it outside for rose identification.
Next will be a smart phone. No idea yet what kind to buy.
