| I have Ville de Bruxelles coming in my pickering order. I don't really see a lot about it on this forum in searches. Would like to hear about it. And maybe when people search for it on this site they can now get a lot more info. Any help would be great. Thnx |

| Looks like you picked an exceptionally beautiful one. I have not grown Laville, it's been on my list about 7 years, and every Spring I try to balance my way through a thorny sea of roses at the local nurseries, hoping to find a gold nugget...I better just mail order. Rogue Valley and David Austin had interesting write-ups about your rose, and I always look at what Paul Barden says on his Old Garden Roses site. The reports vary on bloom size, 3" average to 4.5 sometimes in clusters of five. And the color of pink, well if you looked at the photos on Help Me Find, you have seen what an absolutely fetching bloom it is. I love the form. Do you ever look at the ratings and comments categories on Help Me find? i forgot to read the personal experiences people wrote in about which would probably be most informative. Zoned for down to 4 ( 5 on Northland Rosarium's site) you shouldn't have trouble, but it's funny the different sites don't always state the same zone hardiness. height averaged 5-7 feet, 3 wide. Perfume strong and sweet ( just got a rush of euphoria writing this) I suppose the forum question on the Perfect Rose will have endless opinions, mine for this rose is to pull up a lawn chair with a cup of tea and admire what comes mighty close to perfection. | Bman, My mistake, the previous post wasn't entirely correct; clusters of up to 7, and width up to 5 feet. I wonder what it's strong citrusy scent could be like, wouldn't it be great to put up a clothes line to catch the sent of roses in the linens. think it was Rogue Valley that said in their estimation LaVille de Bruxelles is one of the top ten all time beauties. You could ask the forum what they think of that statement...-L |

| La Ville is one of my absolute favs! I ordered it from a nursey but received an imposter. I'm now on Rogue Valley's waiting list. I can hardly wait..... |

| La Ville should be in every rose garden. It does get tall and then bends over. I prune the outside canes shorter to make the bush stand straighter and get more blooms. This rose is a classic. |
|
| "I ordered it from a nursey but received an imposter. " I think we all know who that was. It has been an issue for that merchant for over a decade now, and still they have not corrected the problem. At any rate, if you do get the correct plant (Pickering ships the right one), it is likely to be one of your best roses, ever. 'Ville de Bruxelles' makes my top ten list year after year, without fail.

| I used to grow this rose - not sure if the nursery gave me the correct one. The one I received - the blooms fried in hot weather and I barely detect any scent. |
|
| Jimmy, if the rose you were sold was a rebloomer -- even a shy one -- then you were sold the imposter. The "real" VdeB does not repeat at all. |
|
| A well-known rose vendor, too, formerly very involved in old roses, but somewhat less so now. I have wondered why they were so stubborn about the identity. That false one is the only one I have ever grown. I accidentally killed it by planting 'Polish Spirit' clematis near it, and it completely overwhelmed and choked out the rose. I am not a fan of growing clematis into a rose. Nearby on a separate support is lovely, but directly on a rose I find to be problematic, even when the clematis is not so vigorous. Folly |
