Rogue River Roses lists Baronne Prevost in their most prolific rebloomer list. It gets the maximum rebloom points - 4 Rs . So, it's RRRR and FFFF. Do they have a champion clone? or are they mistaken? Everyone else says, at best, it blooms well in flushes, others say it's just a rr with slow rebloom. Anyone get a BP from RRV and can tell me if this thing truly blooms like it's a knockout?

| I don't know that it's comparable to a Knockout, Lola, but in my coastal SoCal garden, Baronne Prevost really is one of maybe two Hybrid Perpetuals worth growing. I don't know where you are located, so I don't know if that helps. Here, it really blooms most of the time, unless we hit some really cold weather. It does slow down in hot weather, but it can pop a bloom or two even then. Just as importantly, it doesn't rust or mildew. And for THAT class of roses, THAT virtue is exceptional. We grew B.P. for more than 20 years, but the badly-virused ROY&T plant finally began to lose steam, and we removed it a couple of years back. We now grow "Linsley Plot Quartered Pink," which seems to be a very close family member of the Baronne. It's good in a vase, too. I have heard people call 'Baronne Prevost' "coarse," but I don't get that. I think she's a terrific rose -- at least, she is for my conditions. In considerably different conditions, well, YMMV. | Well, I am sold. The only thing holding me back was the slow rebloom. I am in zone 6a (or 5b -- with the new USDA zoning I never know which one I should use) |

Of course, I have no clue about Blackspot. But I'd think it should be happy with your winter chill -- something it never had, here. Jeri

Before I ever grew that rose myself, I admired it in a public garden in a city near me. There were several things which helped me to decide to grow it: it ALWAYS seemed to have bloom and leaves, when most of the other roses were defoliated or completely bloomless, the flowers are really strongly scented, and the shape of the bush wasn't too big. The "Old Garden Rose" section of that park is dreadfully neglected, those bushes NEVER seem to get any love or attention..and STILL Baronne Prevost always seemed to keep churning out flowers. Then again, the climate here is mild, and there are 5,000 other variables that will affect the situation. I love it.

I grew it for 20+ years in Fl and a cutting came with me when I moved up to N.GA. 4 1/2 yrs. It is pretty well settled in and seems to like it up here. In Fl it bloomed nonstop and up here it blooms from mid spring to late fall. Will always be in my garden.
