Catherine Mermet and "Angel's Camp Tea"

Some of the pictures on helpmefind.com of Catherine Mermet look like my Angel's Camp Tea. Is it possible there's a connection? ACT is an AMAZING rose for us - nice rapid growth, super floriferous, gorgeous fragrant big pale pink blooms, nice bush form, good foliage. It's in bloom now with 3 big blooms and lots of buds.

Though the photos do look similar, in person, the blooms on the Catherine Mermet in the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden are much larger and have more substance than the blooms on the Angel Camp Tea I had.

"Had" because in this garden, despite being in prime real estate, it was very susceptible to powdery mildew and got a lot of vegetative centers (which bug me) during the hotter months. Finally, two large canes were stricken with fire blight one spring (first and, hopefully, last time that has ever happened here!) and that was that.

The blooms and plant during the times of the year it liked here (June, basically) were lovely, but that couldn't make up for its appearance otherwise.

I was going to say that one of the reasons we've never grown Angels Camp Tea is the petal substance -- which I figured wouldn't tolerate our air.
As for Catherine Mermet -- yeah -- she mildews here off and on, and I'm not nuts about the color, either. One of these days, when we have time, she's outta here.

I feel a little better now about ditching my ACT and substituting Le Vesuve. It was a lovely rose but only for five minutes until my blistering sun got to it. It had no disease but the flowers were just too fragile. I wish now I'd waited to see if it would improve in petal substance, but gone is gone. Le Vesuve on the other hand does really well in my heat so I'm probably better off.

Different tastes, I guess; I love that fragile petalled look and so far - fingers crossed - no disease at all.

It's not that I don't love it.
It's that roses with that sort of petal often just ball and rot here. And I do not love THAT look.
