Lance bought me a rose/paparoseman!

Can you believe it..Brian and I went for coffee and since Raft Island opened this weekend we stopped in there. Great sale 15.95! I was talking to the owner Frank Gatto and told him that I knew OF HIM..and I knew a few folks from the Garden Web and Paparoseman..Lance..and he told me Lance was there! Lance lives near me but I had never met him. He had invited me over to show me how he prunes his Autins! So I went down and introduced myself and he said he was there buying a rose for ME! I thought he was joking..but nope that's what he was there for! So I told him I wanted to be surprized and went to the car. He bought me a Glamis Castle. LANCE you are very sweet! I am going to go to a Heritage Rose meeting this month. First time!

Apparently Lance knows that the Pacific Northwest is an area where 'Glamis Castle' does well (I've been told that your area is the most 'British Isles-like of any place in the U.S.). In my garden GC couldn't be sprayed often enough to keep the BS at bay.

Glad to meet you in person finally. The original plan was to buy the rose and take it by your house. In the event that you were not home and I was not sure you would be I was going to place the rose near the house where it would be safe. Think of me as the rose fairy, a manly rose fairy anyway. I did pick up two roses for myself while I was there. Secrets Up and Ice Girl, a white Kordes ht.

Lance -- 'Secrets Up' or 'Secret's Out!'? If the latter, you're going to be very pleased. It is, at any rate, a winner in my zone! If there is a 'Secrets Up', can't comment on it . . .

Is that the white sport of 'Secret'?
If so, 'Secret' was the second-to-last HT remaining in our garden. A beautiful bloom on a handsome plant with no mildew problems.
I still recommend it highly for our area.

I am looking forward to a visit to Raft and Antique Rose Farm in Snohomish. And meeting everyone up there too. Soon, very soon.

My rose garden is going to be really small until I get the hang of chainsawing trees - so what should I plant, you PNW'ers?

I have small beds to work with on the northern and southern exposures against two sides of a a detached garage... ideas, anyone?

RE: rose from Lance

Oh, I just realized I changed this thread - so sorry, Zyperis. I haven't met Lance yet, but just from on-line conversations with him, your rose present from him doesn't surprise me a bit! I hope I will meet you at one of the heritage rose meetings in a couple of months or three. Gean

Lance is charming and what knowledge. Truly, I was quite stunned he bought me a gift! I am very touched. In 2008 I lost 3 friends, they passed away..and one was really into roses. We moved to Gig Harbor after my mother in law passed away. So I don't have any friends..here anyway. So it has been a lonely time..so meeting Lance and getting gift touched me very much. I love life and feel very blessed..but it has been a bit of a sad time for me..but life goes on!

Zyperis, I will be moving to Poulsbo, not too far north of you in a couple of weeks - you will have to come and visit my detached-garage-rose garden to be. I still know how to make Alabama sweet tea!

You are right, the name is Secrets Out. Of course this thread is also letting the secret out so the jig is up. That must be what I meant.

"Think of me as the rose fairy, a manly rose fairy anyway. "

No need to worry, Lance! If Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson can play a tooth fairy in the movies and wear a tutu, I think y'all are safe!!!

Glamis Castle is a non-stop blooming machine for me in northern CA. Hope it does as well for you.

Lance, I have some pics of Secret's Out on HMF. Neat sepals on that rose.
