While in Tyler, Tx today, a friend and I went to Chamblees. Only 2 hours from where I live, they had 2-3" of ice recently. Though the outside roses were set back temporarily, the ones inside the heated greenhouse were lush and growing beautifully. What a sight for sore eyes, even though most were not blooming! I enjoyed walking around and looking at the roses, even though its too early for blooms. I did less damage than usual [the truck was filled nearly to capacity with other nursery related stops we had made] but am sure I will make up for only buying 5 roses at my next visit! I got: Sharifa Asma Archduke Charles Gruss an Aachen South Africa [been waiting for this one a long time] Aloha [I love my one old bush of this rose, have a spot for another] If anyone plans to go to Chamblees, they have some beautiful roses! | I have a good friend in Dallas and whenever I visit I stop at Chamblee's on the way in, and sometimes on the way out. It's actually part of the reason for my visit. |

| I will be making a visit to Chamblees a week from Monday and I can't wait! This forum has been so helpful in helping me decide what DA roses to purchase. So far on my is: Abe Darby Golden celebration Tess of duberville (sp?) Jude the obscure I would love a pink one too. Any suggestions? |

Boncrow, have fun ! May I suggest tamora if you can squeeze it in ? Photos don't do this luscious apricot rose justice. It always looks like the blooms are lit from within. I adore it! I had Mary rose , and loved it . Excellent pink rose! |

| Sharifa Asma and Mary's Rose would be good suggestions. Personally I would recommend non-Austin roses such as Belinda's Dream, Duchesse de Brabant, Souvenir de la Malmaison (probably the best and most beautiful rose in my garden, Mrs. B.R. Cant and Mme. Antoine Mari. Ingrid |

| Boncrow, If you can stand it, forego that pink Austin for Souv. De La Malmaison. It's a fantastic little rose! Josh |

| I am seriously considering Mary rose. I'm sure while I'm there I will be looking at other roses besides DA. I have a nacogdoches and a strike it rich and sugar moon from Chamblees. The sugar moon is white and smells very good. I just don't have any DA roses yet. |

| Ooo, I'm envious. Used to travel through Tyler a couple of times a year--haven't been in a long time. Loved visiting with Frank & going through the greenhouses. Mary Rose was good for me in coastal zone TX9. The only Austin that really thrived--wouldn't mind having it again. Did order Jude, Blue for You & Penelope. Body bag Souvenir del la Malmaisons from HD last year look great--lots of new canes. |

| I spent many a happy time visiting with Frank and learning from him. His favorite Austin was Sophy's Rose and it is one of my favorites. His niece, Maria, works there now and she learned from Frank. Be sure to visit with her when you go. The Austin roses looked marvelously healthy and green. You will have fun picking out roses even though they are not blooming yet. My Archduke Charles had several buds, but it is really too early to expect blooms yet. I plan to go again hopefully in April when things are popping. Have fun! I could spend all day there! Judith |

| I have Mary Rose. Jeri said it did well here and has a nice scent but is boring. She is so right. I put Mary Rose in a triangle with my pink Icebergs. They are much more interesting than Mary, but she is the one I smell. My sldm is doing ok-mildew was a known issue when I decided to try it anyway it is interesting and smells nice. |

| I have always had a weakness for the white sport of 'Mary Rose', 'Winchester Cathedral'. There are never enough good fragrant white shrub roses. |

| Sophys rose or Mary's rose. Which one do I choose? |

Judith, Did you find anything interesting in Chamblee's bargain barn? The last time I went they had a sale on a lot of Buck's roses. I picked up a few. Kris |

| I've had Mary Rose in the past and remember that it was very thorny. Sophy's Rose, which I have now, is a much darker pink, but I'm quite fond of it and it seems to be pretty healthy, with just a little mildew when it's moist. It's stayed on the small side for me, which pleases me since I don't care for octopus arms. If I wanted another Austin from Chamblee's, I'd probably pick Sharifma Asma. Ingrid |

| Oh my a bargain barn at Chamblees. I had no idea. I love a bargain! When I was there I had a limited amount of time so I must have missed that fun little bit of fun. |
