Anyone grow Amelia Earhart or have experience with her?

Posted by lola-lemon none (My Page) on

I have been eyeing this rose (Amelia Earhart) at Vintage for a couple of years, but never pull the trigger because I never can find enough info about her to make a decision.
...Now with Vintage closing, and no one else selling this rose to my knowlege, I am seriously considering getting her anyway. Last chance kinda thing.

But, if anyone has any info on her to help me decide, I would appreciate hearing about her.

Thanks

Burlington sells her--in fact I have her coming to me from an order from there next week.

I have no idea whether you can provide her the heat those bazillian petalled flowers require to open, Lola, but Amelia was tremendous in my old Newhall garden where it was hot and arid. I loved this one and Eternal Youth in that garden. Both were huge, full bushes with large, very full, intoxicatingly scented blooms. I had no disease issues with her there, but, again, it was pretty hot and rather arid. Kim

I got Amelia Earhart band from Burling for about $10 2 years ago. I had it in a pot for around 6-8 months and then planted it in the ground. It is around 3 feet high and 3 feet across. The flowers are of good size (up to 5 inches so far) and have a high petal count. I am not having any significant disease problems, but I rarely do because our climate is dry throughout much of the year. I am pleased with it thusfar..

Thanks for your input everyone.
Some summers we are really hot here Kim, some summers not- the global warming mixed bag. We usually are unfailingly dry however-- once spring passes (May).

well, I believe I'll give her a try. Besides--I am a fan of AE- she was a brave adventurous woman.

I can say the flowers are really beautiful. I never had trouble with them opening here. The plant itself has had problems. I think it may have gotten fungus in its canes. I've cut it back and I think it might be returning to health.
