Has anyone grown Emmanuella de Mouchy?

Hello, fellow OGR lovers! Has anyone out there grown Emmanuella de Mouchy? I searched on this forum's past threads but my inquiry came back empty. RVR includes this rose on its freebies list and I selected it as a 2nd choice. Since it's a Rosa gigantea hybrid, I'm almost positive it's not particularly suited to my climate in Portland, OR, but it might make a nice gift for a friend in another location. Can anyone tell me about Emanuella? Thank you so much! Carol

I love the name. It is a Nabonnand rose so probably one I would have put on the list for a free, but only after the other Nabonnand rose I actually wanted. Looks very pretty, hope she does well for you.

I'm growing it. It's a young plant though three feet tall. It's covered with buds right now. The beginning of Dec. we had an usual cold spell getting down to 16 degrees one night. Emmanuela was unharmed. If it had new growth it would be a different story. I wonder what weather zone they have at Rogue Valley.

RVR is located just across the highway from my sister's place where it is borderline 8a/7b, with some years, like this one, being more like 7b (lots of frozen pipes this winter).

Susan, I will be curious to hear how your rose progresses. Emmanuella de Mouchy seems to be an unusual rose. When I did a photo search on the internet, almost nothing surfaced! Thank you, Kippy. The name reminds me of moustaches! She's an experimental rose for me...if I keep her. Mendocino, thank you for the details. I am afraid my zone may be a tad too cold at times but may send Emmanuella to my sister in Dallas after she constructs a new fence. Belle Portugaise grows well there. I'd love to see photos of your plant when it blooms! Catspa, RVR's climate is a little more temperate than my climate, I believe. The nursery seems to grow some varieties which are slightly tender in my area. Does your sister have a garden packed with roses? I'd be in serious trouble if I lived that closes to RVR! Carol

Carol, my sister has at least an acre of good land and relatively few roses, strangely enough. She does have some interest in roses with history (especially cemetery roses) and has some I've given her. She also has a bunch of old Jackson and Perkins varieties that came with the place, since they were also located in Medford and the previous owner of the house used to work for them in some capacity. Yes, if I lived there I'd be in serious trouble, too. It was bad enough when Vintage did retail and I was only an hour and a half away...and it was on the way to my mother's in Santa Rosa...

I would be in no end of trouble too. I used to work in a craft store and I swear my paycheck was equal-almost-to my spending there :)

Kippy, thank you for checking back with this thread. Mendocino, do you have any photos of bloom this year? Susan, fingers crossed for your rose! Carol

I have an Emmanuella de Mouchy from Rogue Valley that I planted this winter (it was one of their free roses), and it's just about to open its first bloom. I'm wondering about this comment on HMF, though: "'Emmanuella de Mouchy' in commerce is generally 'Irene Bonnet'." Does anybody know if the Rogue Valley EdM is the true EdM?
