Score!

I found Noisette Roses: Nineteenth-Century Charleston's Gift to the World on my library's sale shelf for one dollar. A nice ending to an otherwise crappy day! :-)

A Janus-sortof reaction:

I'm delighted whenever someone gets a book that they want for a really good price.

I'm depressed that someone bought it and didn't find anything in it to make their gardening a richer place.

That's great. A friend once found Curtiss's Beauties of the Rose for me at a library sale.

How fun. I was just checking on the book on amazon last week

I, too, have been window shopping that book. I may have to put it on a Mother's Day hint list. :-). Thanks for the recommendation, Bellegallica and Judith. And congrats on the good deal, Bellegaliica! A find like that is better 'n gold and diamonds in my world. Carol

It's a nice little book. I haven't read it straight through yet, but did some skimming.

I had been on the fence about ordering Heirloom's version of Blush Noisette, and reading about the history of BN pushed me over the edge into ordering it.

Beware! The book is an enabler.

I received this book yesterday and I read it all in one seating. What a charming and informative little book. I was expecting rose info but I got much more! This is one of those rare books, regardless of topic or size, that you can both read cover to cover AND use as reference later on. Usually it's just the one or the other. Many thanks to the CHS, the editor and the contributors, some of whom frequent these forums.

Blush Noisette is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Don't you love it when new roses arrive at the door?

RE: Noisette book

It's a mystery to me how Heirloom got the idea that their Blush Noisette was nearly thornless. Every inch of my little band has two or three thorns on it. Crazy!
