Should I Nip the Bud?

I have a small band from one of last fall's Vintage orders - Jeanne Corboeuf - that was very tiny when it arrived - I left it to grow in its band and babied it all winter, and just repotted it. It has responded with producing a bud! Although exciting, I have read that it is best to pinch the buds off growing bands to help them put more energy into growing roots. I don't have a problem doing this - would rather see the plant grow and thrive and wait for blooms later. Is this the thing to do? Thanks....

Yes.

Though it is hard.

Sometimes people will let the very first one bloom, just to be sure they have the right cultivar. Still, it is better to wait if you can stand it.

That's what I thought......I would rather have a live, growing, precious little band from Vintage that I cannot get anywhere else than worry about a bloom. I will have plenty of other blooms to oh and ah over. I want to do what is best for the band. Have never gotten a misnamed rose from Vintage so not worried about that. Just want the plant to live - thanks for the advice - off it comes tomorrow.

Yes.

Sometimes when I am rooting cuttings the silly things put out buds - off they come immediately - supposed to be growing roots!
