Does anyone know how Morgengruss would do in Florida? It is a Kordesii hybrid, and I know that they do well in colder temps. , but I wonder if it would handle our heat and humidity also. It's available a Vintage, and it's gorgeous! Thanks. Gracin |

Well, Sherry, it looks like we're on our own here. I'm going to pass on it in favor of Pink Rosette. I about dropped my teeth when I saw Kittymoonbeams photos. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that P R will like Florida. Gracin

That makes two of us, teeth-wise. I think I'd love to have her but, sadly, I won't. I hope she loves your garden. Sherry

If she does, Sherry, I can send you cuttings when she's old enough. Or if you don't do cuttings, I'll root one for you. gracin

Oh, thank you, Gracin. I'm hit and miss with cuttings, so we'll see. PR is exactly my kind of beauty for color and shape. Gorgeous! Sherry

I'm glad you posted this question even though no one responded. :-( I saw Morgengruss on the Vintage webiste and put it on a short list. Unfortunately, due to my current situation, I won't be getting anything. But I would love to know if it's something that would have done well here.

I wrote to Aprille on HMF and asked about her beautiful Morgengruss. She is in zone 9a with low humidity, and experiences slight blackspot problems with Morgengruss. She also reports that the flowers do not hold up to temperatures much above the 70's. Looks like Morgengruss is not a rose for the Southeast. Pity. |

I've been looking for this rose for five years. I just searched Vintage's site last week. When I read your post I went there again just now and when I enter the name morgengruss (or Morning Greeting) I just get a blank page. Where are you finding this on the Vintage website??

Jackie, look under "Shrubs" on Vintage's site. ~ Debbie

This may not apply to your area, but I've had a terrible blackspot problem on Pink Rosette. Since cutting back on spraying, it defoliates each summer. It's a shame as the blooms can be perfection.

I have a theory, and folks with more technical knowledge of roses might want to debunk it: Roses with good or rapid rebloom are more likely to survive in Z10 or Z9, because they are genetically "primed" to have a long growing season. Morgengruss is listed by VG as a "good rebloomer", so there is at least a chance that it would survive, if not thrive. Maybe? Of course, my little pet theory about rebloom could be wrong, and there is more to gardening than zone number. Any rose in my garden has to be able to take salt as well as heat.

Well, bbintoronto, if I don't find Pink Rosette on my confirmation from Vintage (should it ever arrive) I will now think twice before I jump off the Palatka Bridge. And if it is on the "confirmed" list , I will look at my naked little plant and think "at least I'm still alive". There's a bright side to everything!

Gracin, you're in/near Palatka!! Very cool. We used to have a weekend house in Welaka opposite the mouth of the Ocklawaha. Love the St. Johns. Sherry

Yes, Sherry, I'm just on the outskirts of Welaka - a stones' throw from the river. I love it too. (Except for when I hear a motor boat racing up or down the river. I think they should be outlawed!) Gracin |

Here's Morgengruss in hot and humid South Carolina. It does very well for me. Carol
