Hi all, So after another round of garden Tetris or "musical plants" as my father describes it, I have identified another potential tea rose spot. What are people favourite teas for cutting? I have Mrs. B R Cant, Comtesse de la Barthe and Monsieur Tillier as well as Francois Dubreuil and Devoniensis. I am thinking Papa Gontier, Safrano or Anna Oliver. Leaning towards Papa G because it is reportedly similar in habit to mutabilis. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I would plant either Anna Olivier or Safrano. I have many teas, but these 2 (along with Le Vesuve) are my most favorite. Here, they bloom early and very often for 10-11 months, and I love their coloring - it contrasts well with the pink teas. Jackie

I don't place much emphasis on roses' qualities as cutting flowers--they never seem to last long for me, whatever the variety--but lately I've been cutting blooms of 'Etoile de Lyon' and it has been superb, long lasting and as beautiful a rose as a person can ask for, with large, full flowers. The plant is as good as the flowers: strong, healthy, frugal, and floriferous. Only fault is it has little fragrance, but I can handle that in this case. This is a yellow rose, Tea yellow, which means a hue ranging from cream to butter to gold, with shadings of honey and fawn, touched here and there with green and pink. Of the varieties you name, I have 'Papa Gontier' (shrub and climbing forms) and 'Safrano', and am very fond of both, but I don't know how they are for cutting. Melissa

The scent of Anna Olivier knocks my socks off. I like 'Mme. Berkeley' as a cutting rose, though she only lasts 2-3 days in a vase in hot weather, 3-4 days during the coolerl months of the year. Lux.

Thanks everyone. It came down to Catherine Mermet and Papa G. On the nurserymans advice I went with papa because the spot is on a slope and he said it was more informal, Catherine has a hybrid tea vase form. Shame, Catherine had a nicer scent :(
