A number of years ago, after salivating at all the tea roses on this board, I went ahead and ordered a whole bunch of them from a Texas nursery. Well, almost all of them promptly died during a harsh winter. This rose, whose tag has been lost, nearly died after a few years in the ground, but recovered nicely this year, showing these beautifully scented blooms. This gives me some hope. Lady Hillingdon, I have a spot for you.

Your rose is very pretty, but what is your zone? If it is not a "7", you might have trouble with tea roses. Sammy

Jeff, this is a lovely rose but I'm not at all certain this is Lady Hillingdon. Your rose is light pink rather than apricot and has many more petals than LH and a very different conformation of the petals. Ingrid

I think he means that he can grow teas, so he wants to get an LH. I'm in zone 7, but this winter, we got below 0 two nights in a row. Most of my teas had to be cut down to the root ball. But they are coming back. LH is one that didn't have a lot of damage. Maybe the spot it's in or something else.

Jeff, you will need to spray or cover with cotton sheeting during hard, hard freezes. This, as well, happens in zone 8. Just no polyester, no plastic over your roses. Cotton or spray with a desiccant spray.

Correct Buford, I really want an LH. I grew it once, but it perished. I don't know which tea rose this is that I posted. I grow in zone 7 too, but our winter was almost nonexistent this year. Jeff

LH is a delicate lady. She is growable in your area, but she is a diva. I think she is a beautiful, almost yellow, sometimes a little pink, sometimes floppy rose, worthy of growing but not for me. Is your rose Duchesse de Brabant? It looks a bit like La Biche that I was sold, but obviously my La Biche was mislabeled.

Patricia, I looked up my chart, and it's Catherine Mermet I believe, but I'll have to wait until more buds open to rule out Hovyn de Tronchere. Planted them both but not sure which one survived, despite what I thought was accurate charting on my part. Jeff

Jeff, it's a beauty. Hope you get a Lady Hillingdon someday and that it does well for you. I'd like to try that one too some day. Randy
