Beaute de l'Europe - Anybody familiar with this tea?

Anybody growing this tea / tea-noisette rose? Any comments or pics? Is the rose in commerce the real thing? Has anybody in Europe got the rose from La Roseraie du Desert in France?

From the little info I can find this sounds like a nice Tea to try.

I composed a reply, but apparently I never actually posted it.

Nik, this rose has not been available in the US until a few years ago when Vintage imported it from La Roseraie du Desert. Anyone who ordered and received it would have done so in the past year. It may well be that no one on this forum has it. Furthermore, anyone who did have it would have a baby plant, probably not doing much yet.

I've seen the pictures. Gorgeous rose!

I actually managed to take a picture, so here is the little I can say. I received it last fall as part of what should have been a four rose French import from Vintage. One rose died at Vintage (for which I got a replacement) and one at my yard. I ended up with two hybrid teas and this climbing tea (Beate de l'Europe). Here they are

In case it is difficult to guess which one is the climber :), it is on the far right. The rose in the middle which actually is trying to climb (just kidding) is Dr. O'Donel Browne, the mildewy rose on the left is Renaissance des Flecheurs, a replacement for Marie Ducher. I have heard that Beaute is an inferior sport/seedling of Mme Berard (which I also grow), so I thought it would be interesting to compare them. So far I can only say that no vigor has been apparent. It is not just "first year sleep", it seems to be in a coma :) We will see what happens when the weather warms up...

I don't seem to find any time to post anywhere anymore, so I thought I would add a few of my other roses that are blooming now. Sorry for hijacking.

"Lykke Dazla". My rose got crown gall. By the time I discovered it there were still some roots left, so I cut out the gall and potted it up. So far so good.

Mme Edouard Herriot. A lovely rose, very elegant. Unfortunately, the color does not photograph well.

Sorry to hijack this thread, Nik, but Masha is so seldom here nowadays.

Masha, what a treat to see your absolutely lovely rose pictures. You have some stunning roses, and Barcelona among the spirea is a visual feast.

I was especially thrilled to see Hoag House Cream, which looks gorgeous. Mine is a little stick in the ground but hopefully will prosper and look like yours one of these days. I also ordered Dr. O'Donel Brown, although it was a substitute for another rose of which I can't now remember the name. Mine isn't nearly as vigorous as yours, and it must be me. I recently fed it wild rabbit droppings and some new leaves shot out. I really like the flower yours has and look forward to seeing mine bloom, although it may not be until next year. My other import was No. 92 Nanjing which is tiny but well-leaved and has had some buds which of course I nipped off. Hopefully by next year it will have grown enough that I can allow it to bloom.

Thank you, Ingrid.

I think you will like Dr. O'Donel, the blooms seem to be packed with petals and no high centers, very much like an HP in looks. I hope yours grows well for you, my plant has been very vigorous and healthy. I agree on HHC, I like it very much too.

It is a pleasure to see you here, Masha. I hope you will post here again. I have always enjoyed your comments on the forum.

Masha, I became active in this forum after you stopped posting but I have read many of your posts and I have admired your garden and your photos. I am also a fan of your blog, which you haven't updated since February. I'm still waiting for D! Hope everything is OK in your life.

Barcelona goes nicely with the spirea, but what I really love is the (accidental?) combination of Pat with the azalea.

Thank you, rosefolly, a little encouragement is what I need.

Nik, I am happy to make your acquaintance, and I am glad to know you read my blog. Someone I know went to the Olympics (back in February) in hopes of getting gold and had a failure of epic proportions. It has been surprisingly hard to deal with it all, in particular with the barrage of hateful comments on the internet, so I have not been near the computer much :(. I do take pictures still, so I will start posting again sometime soon, I hope.

Masha, if you're still following this thread and have time, check out Jackie's thread can you ID this rose. She thinks it may be Madam Berard, and you grow it beautifully. Maybe you could give her a more positive ID.
