need ID on mystery climbing rose

Three 1/2 years ago in the fall we collected cuttings from a climbing rose in a thicket full of what looked like thornless Cecile Brunner in front of a bed and breakfast on Tomales Bay in Northern California. We thought we were getting a thornless Cl. CB. We planted it back home - coastal Central Coast of CA - and for the first 3 years in the ground it produced long, thornless canes without much foliage, and no roses -- until the last few weeks. The bud clusters are very strange and the flowers are nothing like what we thought we were getting. They look like clusters of blackberry flowers. Do we have some kind of single Lady Banks? A species rose? The flowers are lightly and sweetly fragrant.

Thanks for any clues!
