Jackie, it sure looks like Lamarque. If it is moderately thorny and reblooms, I'd say it probably is Lamarque. The foliage seems right and the scent matches. It's not a hippy rose. Lovely! A beautiful, historical find. I adore your intertwined roses, by the way. Carol

Sure looks like it. And the distinctly lemony scent, too, argues for that ID.

Just got a huge "Flores Street Houseater" from a generous trader at the San Antonio plant swap. It may be an exceptional Lamarque clone. Has the same flowers with the lemony scent.
It covered an old house on Flores Street in San Antonio. Since been bulldozed, but many San Antonio area folks have preserved it. It grows to an enormous size, very quickly, even from cuttings (which root easily)

Bluegirl, that sounds fantastic! I've never heard of the Flores clone. If something is going to take down your house, losing your roof to a voracious but voluptuous white rose is probably the sweetest way to go. :-) Carol

The flowers are very double, white, with a creamy center. The most outstanding characteristic (besides incredible vigor) is the scent--two little blooms on cuttings last fall perfumed the entire car.

I should have plenty of cuttings available, possibly rooted cuttings, by fall. I had to cut it back after picking it up from the swap & the cuttings look dehydrated--may have to give it a rest, then take more in a few weeks.
