| Hi everyone,
Can someone give me the approx grown size of Pink Gruss an Aachen? (Height, width side to side, and depth front to back?) I'm getting ready to plant it (finally... before I change my mind again) and am wondering how far to plant away from a walkway and porch posts. Also, can someone clarify whether this rose is a Hybrid Tea (as Vintage says) or a Floribunda as it says on HMF... and what that means for pruning it? On you tube, one can find the old-school advice for hybrid tea roses that say to prune it to "open up the plant" outside buds no crossing canes, etc. Then there's Kitty Belendez's video that show her husband basically hacking away at floribundas with scissor shears. Thanks,

| Mine is smallish, maybe 3 feet by 3 feet. It looks like a floribunda and I've heard it called the very first floribunda, but I'm not sure of that fact. |

| Thanks, Amber. I want to give it enough room to spread, but not leave too much space around it. Kippy... yes, it's beautiful. It's so easy to keep adding to the list. -k |

| 3' all around is a good estimate. Mine is slightly bigger. No need to worry about the classification, which really doesn't mean anything. This rose needs little pruning. It will make a graceful, compact shrub . |

| "How pretty!" Indeed it is a beautiful rose, and a fine garden subject because the plant habit is so attractive and it repeats well. You might want to do a little light staking the first year, as the big flowers will bend the young canes. I slightly prefer the regular 'Gruss an Aachen' for its color variation, which includes the mild salmon-pink of 'Pink Gruss,' but I love both. |

| Thanks for the advice on the staking. I'll do that. There seems to be consensus on the size. I actually have Gruss An Aachen, too... but I have only one of those. I have 2 Pink GAAs and those will go on opposite sides of a walkway for balance... and I'll put the regular GaA somewhere else. |

| Mine are still at the pot ghetto size, so I cannot address the size question. Your instinct in questioning the Floribunda classification seems good though, because Lowery and Robinson classify both GaA and Pink GaA as Hybrid Teas. | Mine is around 5X4. I only trim it a little. It is naturally a nice round shape with only a wayward cane once in a while. I'm sure you could prune it to make it smaller, it seems very forgiving. Here in Atlanta, though, it does suffer from some blackspot. I'm not sure how much that bothers you in SF. |
|
| Mine has never gotten more than 3x3'. Too busy blooming to grow big. |
|
| Yes, it is susceptible to blackspot. |
|
| This rose stays around 3' by 3' for me. Mine is one of the best roses I have. I trim a little with no ill effect. Florabundas do not like to be trimmed in my garden. But no problem with this wonderful rose, This rose is healthy and vigorous in my garden. |
