26 banksia lutea roses in 1/2 block

Just fyi, here is a pic of 26 banksia lutea (actually, I think 2 of them are the white version) growing on 13 metal structures which prevent cars from going into the street at a grocery store parking lot. They are just finished blooming - were in full bloom about 3 weeks ago. They are all at least 20 years old. They bloom prolifically every year, turning the structures yellow. Obviously, they get pruned frequently (otherwise they would eat all of the cars and half of the parking lot).

I found it interesting that this rose, which can get so huge, performs quite well also when restrained and pruned like a hedge, and blooms just as much.

Here is a close up pic of one of the structures (this on has the white version planted on it).

I am speechless! Really. I've never seen ramblers on guard rails. Who knew?

Does Safeway prune the roses continuously? Whenever I've done late pruning on Banks roses they don't bloom much the next year since they bloom on old wood. Is it my climate? I know all kinds of magical growth occurs in California. I just replied with pruning advice on the other Banks thread. I may have to pop back and eat my advice.

I don't pay enough attention to know when they are pruned, but I can tell you that each Spring they bloom prolifically, covering the structures in bloom so that you can barely see the leaves of the roses. They are always tidy, so someone is taking care of them all the time. Each structure has 2 rose bushes planted on it.

Two Ladies per rail. Now I've seen everything! You post the most amazing photos. Carol

Moms neighbors lady banks is just on top of her picket fence. Blooms great and never is in the trees. The gardener just clips longer canes here and there. She must have 2 and they are probably 20 years old or more

On a picket fence, too. I love this rose! Carol

Wow! That isn't such a bad use for them actually...

My mom grows a White Lady Banks along/up her chimney in a fairly shady spot. It's only in the last few years -since I became interested in roses- that I noticed specifically what it was and it really is quite impressive what a Lady Banks can do. Hers is probably 6'/7'x6' and only 2' deep next to a pathway. It always bloomed reliably in the spring, putting out blooms on some new growth and all old. It's nowhere close to the house eaters I often see, but it keeps chugging along.

It appears to be at the point where it may begin blooming all year since it has had at least some blooms on it since last November. Last year I began watering the lady once or twice a month as opposed to the once or twice a year it had been getting and the flowers came fairly soon after. I can't be sure if it will keep blooming yet, but it has enough buds to keep itself going for another month and half at least. Here are some of its most recent blooms:
