How does everyone's vintage order look?

Hi! how's everyone new vintage roses? and what did you get? I wish I knew how to post multiple pics. This is what I ordered.

La Rubanée
Comtesse du Cayla
Dominie Sampson
Golden Wings
Pink Soupert
Tip-Top
“Charles Walker's Mignonette”
La Sylphide
Mme. Antoine Mari
Goethe
Mme. Louis Lévêque
Superb Tuscan

When I got my roses they sent a note sayin all their Mme. Antoine Mari's had perished, so I had to send a replacement. I was a little dissapointed in a couple of the roses. One was barely rooted, another was really tiny, microscopic, and on another one all the leaves were crispy it was needing water so bad. :( All were bone dry on arrival though. I was a little disapointed in the quality after all the good things said about them. I sent a email with no response so far. I hope everyone else's order's came to them fine. I was kinda wondering if anyone else experienced this. Just in case someone thinks I am I'm not trying to say nothing bad about them. Was just curious if anyone else received similar is all. The rest of my roses were great besides being dry, some even had blooms on them! Which was a nice surprise! I took pics of them, but in the pictures they look better then in real, so I think they should all be fine, the only one I'm kinda worried about is the one with the crispy leaves, I even had to cut some stem off because it was drying out badly.

I've received two orders. The first order had some HUGE ramblers in it and everything was pretty good sized except for the spinosissimas (which I understand are hard to root, so that was fine).

My second order arrived last week, most looked ok except for a teeny tiny Pasadena Tournament CL and one of the gallicas (I can't remember which one without looking, they all have French names haha) . Since then, the gallica I can't remember the name of and one of the other hybrid chinas I ordered dried up and died :( I didn't say anything about them, because I know they;re not available anymore anyway. Maybe they'll survive, but they've pretty much turned completely brown. I did contact Gregg about two roses they were out of last minute, and I was sent the same alternate for both, so they are sending me a replacement in my last order shipping in June. They're great to work with and are happy to correct anything, I just chose not to ask for replacements for the two that aren't going to make it.

I placed and received my first order with no difficulty. When the plants arrived I was very impressed by the packaging. I immediately watered the plants and put them outside on the patio. I have them potted up now in 1 gallon pots. So far no complaints. We have even had several 40 degree swing in temperatures here in North Texas. Still my plants are healthy and thriving.
Perhaps you received a dud plant. This does happen. Also there could have been temperature swings in transit. I believe they will do well by you and fix your problem. They have been inundated by a mad rush of orders before their closing in June. I also ordered from them because of the rave reviews on this site. I made a last minute change to my order and this was honored. I was very impressed. I normally order from ARE in Texas. But placed this order because they were closing.
Basically, I am rambling on to say. Hang in there. This is a great company caught up in a fix at the moment. But they will get to you eventually. Best wishes and happy gardening.

I rec'd my second order yesterday. All 16 were great. They held back four from my first order of 8 because they were still too small, but that was an early shipping. At this point, I think there is not much stock left, so picking out the "good" ones for clients may not be an option. This is also the prime month for everyone's orders, so they are very busy. The rest of my orders are "ship when you can." VG has always been wonderful about replacing duds, tho in all the years I've dealt with them, there have been very, very few. Let them know you have a problem and give them wiggle room to fix it. Be kind; this is the death of a dream. It's an emotional wrenching time for them.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

Sorry you got some poor ones. Got most of my order a couple of weeks ago. Most were not only good, they were exceptional, & arrived well-hydrated & leafed out. Only 2 were little or marginal looking--Mme. Butterfly & Orangeade--but I think they'll be okay. I left an open-ended, "ship when they look big enough" order & have received all but 2 that they are holding to grow off a bit more. My only disappointment is not getting a few rare ones I ordered *sob*. I've never had any problem with getting a replacement & only rarely needed one.
Dang, I'm gonna miss them.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I had two orders of four each and all of them were in very good shape and moist. They were all quite leafy and two even had buds. My only disappointment was a single rose-shipment of Souvenir de St. Anne's which had and still has very few leaves (almost none) after about three weeks. I hope it will pull itself together and still make it. I'm not about to complain or ask for a refund given their circumstances.

My order of eight came yesterday; healthy, well packed, large. I immediately potted them up to one gallons and gave them a good drink.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

My first order has arrived, and it had the largest and best plants I've ever gotten from Vintage. But then, 8 of them were ordered a couple of weeks before the announcement of their closure, and 3 of them were custom root orders that were actually ready last fall but they were holding them for me for spring. Boy were they large! My first order placed after their announcement arrives in a couple of weeks, hopefully they will not be _too_ tiny. Also hopefully the low temperatures last night won't have damaged the ones I already have.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

Thanks everybody! Yeah Ingrid and Tammy I'm not gonna ask for replacements given their situation either, but I did let them know about them and just asked for a sub for the one they didn't have. I have faith in hoping they all make it and pull through. I was just a little disapointed because I felt even though they were closing, they still should have kept their plants they were selling in good shape so even though they are going out of buisness they would go out with a bang! If you know what I mean. But I do feel as if they are doing the best they can, and it's just the two of them, so I'm sure it's alot to keep up with too. I also let them know I never received my book of roses, am looking forward to reading it! The packaging on my roses was exceptional as well! Also a couple had blooms and I repotted the tiny ones in gallon ( four of those I think) , and they rest in two gallon and watered them well. ( I ran out of all the gallon ones, and the rest were pretty good size anyway, just dry) It rained last night as well so I'm sure they loved that! Bluegirl I'm sorry you didn't get all the ones you wanted, I had to replace two of them when I was ordering and now another when I recieved :( Thankyou to everyone else who has responed and I hope everyone receives great roses!

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I got an email saying that my order that was schedule to ship last Monday was delayed and will ship this coming Monday instead. Sounds like they are very busy.

One of my bands from them last year was a tea-noisette that looked like a short dried up brown stick with a very small shoot coming off it when it came, but it ended up sending out a lovely set of canes and other than not blooming was one of the best performing bands I got last year!

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I was short two roses but I emailed and let them know and was patient. Gita wrote back saying that the two would be delayed. It must be crazy trying to send these orders out for the two of them. The ones I got were about the size that I have always gotten and are growing well. They were well packed and moist.

The Lemon Spice from another source that was dried out and had gotten shaken out of its soil and free swimming in the box is making a comeback. I kept it in the filtered sun under a tree while it slowly shed its leaves and made new growth from buds on the little cane. Now it has some true leaves and is getting morning sun. I was dipping it upside down in weak seaweed extract solution every week but not putting anything on the roots but straight bottled water. It's the only plant left in a band pot, the others have moved up to gallon pots.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

For those of you that have "marginal chance of survival" type plants. Get a spray bottle with water in it and put it next to the bands, put them in part shade (morning sun only, and dappled is better than full), and squirt them with the spray bottle every time you go by. At least twice per day.

I root lots of roses, and that treatment can make all the difference between a weak-rooted rose making it or not.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

Has anyone gotten their European roses from 2 years ago? I haven't gotten mine or heard back from my email I sent weeks ago.
I don't want to bother them, but my email changed since my order was placed and I'm really worried that they will give me up as lost and just not send them.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I don't know about that cweathersby, but I still haven'y got a response to my email that I sent to sub for the one they didn't have .

And I placed an order online April 2nd and haven't received a confirmation, or a response to my followup email I sent last week. I know they're busy, but I hope everything is ok. Seems unusual....

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I haven't heard anything about the European roses, either, am beginning to wonder if they even got my order. My last computer crashed, and can't remember if they had sent me an email or not...it's discouraging.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

Thanks. I know they got both of my orders, and I emailed the PDF file of my order confirmation. I'm really worried about it, because I ordered (and spent) a lot.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I called and left a message today and sent another email asking for conformation when they received it. I know they are busy so I'm trying so hard to be patient. I know it's only the two of them doing all these last minute orders and all. If you go to their website their is some information on the front page about the European roses. Hope to hear something soon for us all!

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I received my order I added to since last fall. All ten of the band roses were huge. Three of them had ten inch long stems. All are more than ready to be potted into gallon pots. I added to my order three times and they accommodated me with patience and promptness. I am so excited to be growing some rare roses such as 'Spring Street Peppermint Climber'. All of the roses came with green buds which I pinched off because I want the roses to focus on growing rather than flowering. I am so sad to lose a provider of roses I have used for the last four years.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

That's great ya'll! Glad you got some good ones. Mine were all great except those two, Goethe and Comtesse. Both died. All other are putting on new growth and are beautiful though! Still waiting to see about a repacement for the one they didn't send. They did send a email letting me know they received it.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

My penultimate Vintage order which was placed last fall arrived in excellent shape - all four of my babies look very healthy indeed.

I feel as though I should save the box or something silly to commemorate all the joy that has come my way from this great nursery. A great deal of my rose education as well as my rose garden can be attributed to their informative and seductive website. I don't like to think of life "without".

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I received my delayed order of 4 Teas today--Duchesse de Brabant, Mme Joseph Schwartz, Mrs. Dudley Cross and Mllle de Sombreuil.

The Duchesse came out of the box with a bloom--the sassy thing--which is now in a tiny vase on my window sill. Not to be outdone I had to pinched 3 buds off Mrs. Cross and left one--I can't resist! I left one bud on Joe's wife, too. They are all about 9" with Mlle de Sombreuil most resembling a stick, although when I potted them up she had the most roots so no worries.

All in all I'm very happy.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

Mine looked great, they had to sub all four of my alternates but I wanted them as much as the others so I'm perfectly happy with that. The smallest is the Elegant Gallica, which is just starting to leafing out but the little buds look green and healthy and I think it'll grow into a big healthy plant.

My order (with the alternates subbed) was:
Mme. Alfred Carriere
La Rubanée
Duplex
Rosa corymbifera
Rosa gentiliana
Mme. Berkeley
Beau Narcisse
Elegant Gallica
Rosa Helenae (my favorite name in this group, not sure why)

Here's a pic of the group, Beau Narcisse is the biggy in the back.

RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I finally placed my order for roses, got my catalog last week.

I ordered:
Florence Bowers Pink Tea (how could I not-sure hope they have one left)

Mme Berkeley

Morey's Pink

Sombreuil

and Alternates of
Alister Stella Gray
Blush Noisette

And boy was it hard to pick! I missed many that I really wanted, the found roses, but hoping in June there will be a list of what is left and needs homes.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I'm glad everyone's looked so great. Mine did as well besides those two and they died :( But thanks for showing me ya'lls :) they are beautiful. This was my first order with them and last since they are closing. It's a shame to lose them.

 o
RE: How does everyone's vintage order look?

I was in California when my order arrived. My husband unpacked them (sort of), doused them with water, then bunged them in the dark laundry room. I arrived a week later and took a couple three more days to pot them up. All are nicely bouncing back--all have thrown out lots of leaves, and I even got a few blooms, too. I can't keep them in pots too many weeks here, because they will need time to root in the ground before our inevitable winter sets in.

I got quite teary. I just discovered old roses three years ago. Now our huge asset out West is closed. Sometimes in the intervening days, I torture myself by getting out Gregg's sumptuous catalog, and mewling over all I will never have.
