Is anybody in a warm and dry med climate growing any of Viraraghavan's creations out of India? I would be interested in any comments and recommendations. Nik

Grrr.... no, because for some unknown reason the US govt thinks that importing roses into this country is incredibly dangerous and should be discouraged at all cost. I would LOVE to be able to purchase these teas - I am sure they are wonderful. So nice to have modern hybridizers focusing on roses for warm climates! Jackie

I think that Roses Unlimited has sole distribution rights for these roses in the United States. The last I checked they carried several. I grow 'Faith Whittlesey' now but did have a number of others in Alabama. I can't say how they would do in a dry warm climate; in a wet warm climate FW was great. I brought it with me because I liked it so much; it doesn't bloom nearly as well, but the foliage is still clean. I think you can reach the Virargahavans through helpmefind if you have questions about their roses.

Jackie, Roses Unlimited lists the following for sell in 2014: Ahimsa TM - HT - (my) - 1996 (thornless) Aussie Sixer TM - T - (ab) - 2010 vf Coffee Country TM - FL - (m) - 1998 Dixie Beauty TM - T - (yb) - 2010 f Emina TM - S - (rb) - 2006 Faith Whittlesey TM - T - (w) - 2005 Garnet Crest TM - T - (pb) - 2006 Krishna's Peach TM - T - (ab) - 2007 Manipur Magic TM - CL - (ly) 2005 Naga Belle TM - HT - (dp) - 2006 Pat Henry TM - S - (lp) - 2010 vf Pink Prelude TM - S - (mp) - 2005 Twilight Tryst TM - HT - (m) - 2006 vf Rogue Valley Roses lists the following online: Nik, I am in a hot and humid climate instead of hot and dry one, so keep that in mind regarding my comments. I have had Aussie Sixer for several years, and last year I added Faith Whittlesey (extremely slow growing for me, but it could just be the spot in which I planted it) and Pat Henry (blooms regularly). Aussie Sixer never seems to be covered in blossoms as a tea rose would be during a flush, but it usually has some flowers at any given time. Although it doesn't give the impression as a heavy bloomer, the number of hips when pruning would indicate that it blooms more than I realize. It has an upright, narrow shape, but that could be partly because the tea roses on either side grew faster than it did. Just arrived from Roses Unlimited last week are Ahimsa, Krishna's Peach and Naga Belle. Naga Belle arrived with three or four large open flowers which were quite pretty.

Thanks! Sorry I am so ignorant. I am looking up the ones on the list marked "T" on HMF, and so far the breeding includes Safrano and Gigantica. That is so great - both of those roses do well here in dry heat. My only caveat would be the listed heights & widths of 3 - 4 feet. Safrano is not one of the huge teas here, but it does get larger than that in my garden (at least 5 ft high and 8-9 feet wide), and then there is Gigantica... Just saying that I would not pay attention to HMF's size estimates in a warm & dry climate. Jackie

It's not relevant to the inquiry -- but Girija and Viru Viraraghavan are about the nicest people I know. Jeri

I'm in a very humid, hot climate, but I have Aussie Sixer and Krishna's Peach. So far KP is a much heavier bloomer than AS. They are still small, though.
