| An Adventure in the Venetian Countryside by Andrea di Robilant Loved this meandering tale! I followed the author through history, through Italy, France, a short stop in China. He introduced me to a scientist who had some very interesting thoughts on the behavior of roses, an amazing somewhat disturbing couple with a huge collection of roses, an elegant French rosarian whose vocabulary seemed to only include the word "oui", and many others. And he left me hoping someday to smell the raspberry fragrance of his rose 'Mocenigo'. I don't want to share too much more since the book is really defined by its vignettes. Just wondered if anyone else is reading this. A perfect way to end a day that was spent in the garden. |
