While looking at availability lists I came across this tea, most are photos from Australia. Does anyone in SoCal grow this rose? Any thoughts?

Kippy, that's 'Madame de Wattville', I assume? I don't grow it, but looking at the pictures and reading the notes and comments on HMF, it's a real beauty when conditions are to its liking (hot and dry, apparently). But, it looks like it may be an 'Etoile de Lyon' type: one bit of adversity (moisture in the air, oh no!) and, at minimum, the guard petals go disfigured and brown, or worse. Then there's the mildew thing. Now, I love 'Etoile de Lyon' with all my heart (definitely in my "top 5"), so I accept that some flushes will be totally wasted should moisture rear its ugly head (the one rose that has you praying for drought and heat waves!), but that might be part of the package with this rose. I hope someone with actual experience in growing it responds.

Catspa -- with EdL, I learned that if you remove the outer ("guard") petals, those blooms will open normally. Nowadays, our climate is so much drier, it wouldn't be needed, but back when Fog Was Us, it was a useful factoid. Kippy, sorry, I don't grow MdW either. So many roses. So little time.

Guessing the lack of interest means those will be some big bands....lol I don't need to pull guard petals. Thanks
