What Looks Good Next to General Gallieni?

Hey everybody,

Recently I asked about Gilbert Nabonnand. I think there is a very good chance that General Gallieni was sent by mistake instead of Gilbert. Not having planned for General Gallieni, I'm not sure what would look good near it. What colors would you place/do you currently have placed near GG?

Jay,

I would suggest Rosette Delizy.

I have always thought that GG looks like a darker version of RD. This is corroborated by a HMF posting, showing the two together.

What a great rose (GG) to acquire by accident!

Best,

Larry

From what I have seen, the general grows flat. Almost like a carpet. Ok, maybe an Ottoman. So maybe something taller behind it? His daughter rosette as sugested would be a good choice. Or perhaps Hugo roller?

There are two spots on either side of a Rosette Delizy that tea roses are slated for. There are five slots for roses in a row where the order goes: Rubens (space) Rosette Delizy (Space) Gilbert Nabonnand. Would it look better between Rubens and Rosette Delizy or Gilbert Nabonnand and Rosette Delizy? I do like the idea of the two near each other, thanks for that suggestion.

I'm going to say between Reubens an Rosette Delizy.

I would like to add that while the General grows somewhat laterally or flat in its early years, it does grow taller as it matures. I've never seen a fully mature General but the one I grew was "like an ottoman" for the first three or four years but was headed upward after that. HMF lists mature grow at about 6 feet, and I believe it. It was a very vigorous, healthy, heavy bloomer for me.
