Have a PC....and some pics.....

True, my online hiatus had certain benefits.....such as a decent allotment).....but nonetheless, one new (to me)PC and I ran amok with my little camera after hanging out in the woods (deep green) and coming back to the start of the rose season here on the allotment. Futile squinting at a minuscule screen really does not cut the mustard so,even though I can see these scenes perfectly well (ish) with my own eyes, there is definitely something joyous thrilling about a snapshot of time........especially since the scene changes from hour to hour. And when it is a miserable January.......I have verififcation of metamorphosis.
Apols for failing to use a hosting site which means lots of posts......will be brief.
This one is the mishmash which covers the chainlink fence at the end of the plot - a tangled mix of Penelope, Schoener's Nutkana, the dainty little purple Sibelius, a setigera hybrid not quite out (Tolstoi) Matchball and a garish, but appropriate clem, Fireworks

Beautiful photos, Campanula! An enchanting flush of blooms. It's so wonderful to see your name next to a posting again. You've planted such gorgeous tangles of color! I love all the single roses in your pics. Can you get Bayse's Purple in England or is it a U.S. only thing? I think of you when I visit my Bayse's. It's very compatible with veggie gardens and is chock full of delightful details such as dark canes, dramatic sepals, and golden eyes. Its blooms look like stained glass when set against the rising or setting sun. Carol

Good to see you.

Gosh, I wish I had such a "mishmash", camp. Glorious roses, beautifully massed together. I'm so glad you took pictures because too often your descriptions don't do your garden (allotment) justice. Now you can't just dwell on the negatives since we have proof positive. Keep that camera pointed....

Ah, Camp, lovely.

 o

Hey Camp! All beautiful! And good to hear from you, too.

RE: Have a PC....and some pics.....

Pretty pics Camps. I see we share the same propensity to plant more roses and plants in a given area than any sane person would contemplate. I always say it keeps weeds under control..

Thank you!! It is so nice to see gardens where the ground is green not brown like here

Beautiful -- and so distinctive. I love the "fedge" and the celebration of singles. I want to know more about Sibelius. Of course, the scots rose is exquisite. I can imagine the fragrance.

Absolutely beautiful, Camps! You have achieved the amazing explosion and mix of plantings that shows off the grace and beauty of the roses and the intriguing interplay with other perennials. That fence shot is gorgeous, as is the shed picture. Initially when I'd saw your note, I'd read this as "dog shed", since dodgy isn't a word I hear often around here. So when I looked at the picture, I wondered how the dog would be able to get in his shed. Reading it correctly now, it's even more amazing that you can use your own shed with all the competition from the roses for space! Looks like you need to keep your rose gauntlets outside the shed rather than inside, or you won't survive the journey to fetch them (smile).

Keep the pictures coming! It gives us a great sense of the allotment and the amazing accomplishments you've made with that space.

So beautiful!

I agree with Kippy, here in our drought stricken area it's a great relief to see such lush greenness. Your woods are already wonderful, I can't wait until we get to see pictures of spring bulbs and other magical things in there too.

Keep up the good work!

I shall not covet that which I cannot have... except for maybe a moment.

Beautiful allotment, Suzie, but the woods belong to the gods.

RE: Have a PC....and some pics.....

It's all simply wonderful, Campanula - but Meg is especially lovely. Wish I had someone planting like that next to my yard!
(And your woods photo is so serene. Love the play of light and shadow.)

I can't express how beautiful the the photos are than others. At a loss for words your allotment would be my treasure.

I am in love with your mish mash Camps. It is beautiful.
Your Meg has made me envious again too. The first time I saw her was many, many years ago in the gardens of Sissinghurst Castle.
I remember standing and staring at her, filled with avaricious, rapacious envy.
Now you've done it again.

In truth, I have been baffled by the dreadful write-ups Meg gets from so-called rose experts (Stiff, non-repeating, prickly, scentless, fleeting etc.etc.) I was forced to conclude that it was a snippy response to an amateur breeder having the temerity to release this rose into the world of commerce. True, it does not repeat and yes, it is a little wayward, but truly, in full flood, it is an outrageously beautiful (and healthy) rose.

I am a bit astonished by the fulsome praise - England is a kind and temperate climate and it is simply not possible to fail at growing roses here - any fool can do it....whereas with the insane extremes of the US, my admiration for you sturdy growers knows no bounds..
