I'm in the next zone up from you and mine didn't stop frying in the sun. Most of my roses which receive more than six hours of sun daily, fry. It doesn't matter whether they are in ground or potted, though the potted ones fry faster. Petals are just too soft to endure that kind of heat for long periods. Unless you can create some afternoon protection using other plants, you'll need to be patient with him until the weather cools off enough to enjoy him more frequently, or cut the flowers to open in the house when conditions are too sunny and hot. Teas are known for softer, papery petals and those tend to fry at lower temps and less sun than the heavier substance petals of some HTs. Kim

Mine fried, too. The only teas I have that don't are Etoile de Lyon and Souvenir de Pierre Notting -- thicker-petaled than average, maybe.

And, lighter colored petals. Darker colors absorb more heat. Kim

I planted mine in a spot that gets afternoon shade. It doesn't bloom as much as it would in full sun, but the blooms don't fry.

Ours fries without exception.

But that hot, dry, desert air is not our "normal" weather, so we ignore it.

Mine fried after an hour or two in the sun, more so than my other tea roses so it's no longer with me in my hot garden. Clementina Carbonieri did the same thing. A pity, since both are beautiful roses.
