Gallica blooms last about 2 days in the heat here. I keep them in pots and move them out of sight during the crud days of summer. I would say this rose and Tuscany Superb and my prettiest OGRs. There are a couple of damasks too that I like (don't know the names). One damask is next to Lyda Rose whose vigor just swamps the damask after bloom. I really like the Gallicas and LOVED them when I visited England but its just too hot here for them to last... Susan

No hope of growing it here -- but thank you for sharing it. I'd only seen it once.

I do love your picture of the Orpheline. Those dark colors are amazing. I think I may have Belle Herminie or something that was supposed to be Tuscany Superb, but clearly isn't, because a lighter crimson. It suckers and the bloom lasted for over three weeks last year. Longer than all the others. Of course we have been having relatively cool springs, but last June it got quite hot, and it kept going regardless, like the ever-ready bunny. It isn't as pretty or distinctive as Cardinal Richelieu (to my mind) or as dark as Tuscany. I don't seem to have the real Tuscany, the one that shows the golden stament, though I ordered it several times.

A stunning color, and a beautiful contrast to the green leaves. How I'd love to have a rose of that color! In so. CA you can only dream, but the picture helps. Ingrid
