BD was a dog in my garden-SP'd her. The blooms were ALWAYS brown tinged and frequently never opened, even in the summer. Abe Darby, Golden Celebration, Fisherman's Friend, Carefree Beauty and Jude hold up well for me.

Tradescant makes a wonderful cut flower, as does Prospero, Fair Bianca, Swan, English Garden, Golden Celebration, Evelyn, Charles Austin & Yellow Charles Austin, William Shakespeare 2000, Charles Darwin, Cymballine, Perdita and Souvenir de la Malmaison. Actually, most anything can make a good cut flower if treated right. China roses absolutely have to be recut under water or they last about 15 minutes.

Joasine Hanet (Portland from Glendora) holds for several days and fills my house with fragrance. Big sprays of Complicata are stunning, as are sprays of Perle d'Or. Barbara's Pasture Rose (La Reine?) holds and has a wonderful raspberry fragrance.

I cut most roses for indoors but treat them all differently. Yesterday I brought in double white spinossissimas, cut quite short, and put them in a low bowl with dark blue violas as always. Gallicas I usually display palettewise floating in an even lower and wider glass bowl that holds 10 blooms without stems. HP's and bourbons look and smell good in a stem glass with a domed glass lid so I can lift the top and inhale the smell. I have several of these typically 60'ies rose glasses but they dont' seem to make them anymore. Mine are all second hand.

My best cut flowers among the Old Garden Roses are: Souvenir de la Malmaison & Paul Neyron. Both are show-stoppers in a vase ... no visitor to the house can resist them.
