What are peoples favorite cutting roses?
I'm thinking in terms of pervasive fragrance and lasting qualities, not just souless florists roses.

I rarely cut roses.

My garden needs them more than my house does. The only time I bring them indoors is when I am pruning. Then I harvest any roses that happen to be there at the time.

That being said, the HTs Pope John Paul II and Oklahoma are wonderfully fragrant.

Souvenir de la Malmaison, Bishop's Castle and Belinda's Dream. They're all fragrant and seem to last best of all my roses.

Etoile de Lyon, Mrs. B.R. Cant, Ulrich Brunner Fils, Madame Alfred Carriere, Lemon Spice, Gruss an Coburg, Just Joey, and Grandmother's Hat are the ones most often plucked here.

The DA rose Mayor of Casterbridge makes a REALLY good cut flower. I'm not saying this is my all-time favorite, but it has a really long vase-life, good stems, and the sweet rosy scent is SO nice, and doesn't seem to fade after cutting.

I agree with Catspa: Just Joey is always a winner in a vase. When I bring it to work, everyone goes nuts over it- color, size and scent..

Whatever has blooms which are about half out, reachable w/o a ladder, hopefully not front and center regarding the view of the bush from the garden or street, and colors that go with the color scheme on my dinner table that day.

As you may have guessed, I almost never cut roses except for center pieces when I am having a dinner party (which happens about once a month on average). On the day of the party, I run around the garden (usually at the last minute) looking for blooms. My criteria do not include vase life or fragrance, as they only have to last a few hours. This results in very mixed bouquets which are mostly old roses, since that is what is mostly in my garden. For example, one of my dinner plate sets has orange/dark blue decorations on it, so when I use that I stick to roses which are yellow, white, buff, & peach (there being zero orange roses in my garden), and throw in some Mexican salvia if it is blooming (which it is 9 months of the year here).

So, the bouquets are usually very different from each other. So far I have been able to do this 12 months of the year, as some of the roses really do bloom for 12 months here.

Adam, you could take this a bit further by asking by color, my best red is 'Camp David.

So far I have planted Papa Gontiier, Archidic Charles, Mrs. BR Cant, Tipsy imperial Concubine, Jude the Obscure and Radio Times for future cutting. My Sophies Perpetual also does ok when cut, unlike Francois Dubreuil. I also use Madame Isaac Periere in float bowls because it doesn't really have stems but releaes a lot of perfume. I have a long commute, so it's nice to have part of the garden inside when I get home.

Hopefully thats a good start, but I'm contemplating a good cutting hybrid tea, maybe Oklahoma and need to put in some Mexican Salvias.

Would love Belinda's dream, but I dont think its available in Oz.
