You might need a 3rd. Even as my roses are blooming now, I'm still finding new dieback. Mostly from canes that looked ok before but obviously were not.

It was a brutal winter for me.

Me too. Even in a warmer zone 6b/borderline 7a. A few roses haven't started leafing out yet and may be dead or mostly dead. Many others have more cane dieback than was initially apparent. I don't try for "zone-pushing" either and I'm surprised by Austins and even an Alba that are not as hardy as expected.

Speaking of Explorers, I'm amazed so many Canadian roses died back to the snow line (about 1 foot.) A. Mackenzie, Prairie Joy, Quadra, Morden Centennial, Champlain, & Hope For Humanity died back like never before.

We had minus 16 F in mid Michigan, which isn't that cold by Canadian standards. Even John Davis, which stayed green to the tips, is now withering the shoots on its top half. It had to be more than just the cold that did all this damage.

I'm going out today and cutting Illusion to the ground, its not looking well. Yes and your right about the explorers..Quadra isn't looking well..John Cabot looks normal so far, I cut Jens Munk and Henry Hudson right to the ground but I did that in the middle of April and that was planned.. Some of my Gallica are not looking well either...

I'm seeing more damage everyday, I don't know if I'm going to loose most of my roses, or maybe they will spring back. I super busy with work not sure when I can get out there...
