I am happy to report all shrubs that were cut to the ground this spring are up 2-3 ft budded and ready to bloom in 2 wks or so. Roses that weren't cut down are ready to bloom any day now. So I'm going to have a good flush after all. My apologies if I seemed overly dramatic. All the best this growing season.... Mark

That's great news, Mark. At the least, it's been educational and you'll have a better idea of what to expect next time. I'm glad you'll still have a pretty rose garden to enjoy. Ingrid

| Yes ingrid it has been very educational for me. Pruning and maintaining these large shrubs has always been a struggle.I have 4 shrubs with some blooms starting today..I'm thankful I'm in a climate that receives regular rain. I've read your struggle with your roses and the lack of rain and all that heat. I hope you can figure a way to keep a garden going what ever plants you choose to grow.. Thnx for your encouragement... | Thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes, Mark. One of the lovely things about this forum is that we encourage each other when things aren't going as well as we'd like, and we rejoice when there is a turnaround for the better. Ingrid |

Great job, Mark! I can't wait to see some pictures! I think we're both in about the same place. Many of the ones I cut to the soil are now producing good buds for a late spring flush. I have three existing bushes with buds showing color now. The rest are at least two weeks out. They're a good three weeks behind "normal" schedule but they are coming back and that makes me happy!

Mark, I'm glad your roses survived their arctic winter and are going to delight you with blooms! You folks in the North had a miserable time. Seil, you too. I wish you both, and all the gardeners in cold areas, a wonderful flowering! Melissa
