. . . OR 'Gloire des Rosomanes," -- Plantier (France, 1825) / Int.by Vibert (France, bef. 1836)

This one periodically blooms pink . . .

We almost lost it to gophers, earlier this year, and since the mother plant no longer exists, I was pretty unhappy.

I'm very glad, now, to see it again growing like a weed,(tho considerably shorter than it once was) and blooming well.

Lovely red!

We're fortunate, in that this rose was used as rootstock for a long time -- probably right up 'til most commercial growers switched to Huey.

With this, when the scion was lost, the garden was left with a continuous-blooming fragrant rose that is disease-free (at least, it is in CA).

Hi Jeri. Yes, we had a few "Ragged Robin" at Elizabeth Park as rootstock. Very attractive rose. But they eventually succumbed to the cold, alas.

I'd imagine they would! California, however, is kind to this rose, and it is kind to us, in return.

Oh, pretty! I love Ragged Robin--very happy, easy-keeper here, also. And it throws thick canes, for a China (if it really IS a China).

I think it's more like a China than it is like a Bourbon. One of those roses which defies classification.
