How do you include pics with your messages on the forum?

RE: photos

It's a PITA.
You have to upload them to someplace like Photobucket first. Then you can get a link from there that you can add to your post after you preview but before you submit.

RE: photos

Thanks, Susan. Although I finally figured out Photobucket, it's still a mystery why the photos are deleted after a time. Does anyone know how come? I'm assuming this is GW, not Photobucket. Is there a time limit or something? Or is there some way to post them "permanently?"

RE: photos

I dunno for sure, but I think it's because PB is free and there is a limit on how much you can have on it, so people who use it a lot end up having to delete their older pictures to make room for the new ones????? Just a guess.

The fact that pix have to go there before they can go onto GW keeps me from uploading photos most of the time.

RE: photos

If you "re-organize" your photos on Photobucket the links are wrong and your photos posted at Garden Web disappear (due to broken link).

I also hate how clunky posting photos is and how difficult Photobucket makes it to choose the size to appear. Magic would be nice, PBucket makes me say bad words and get in a bad mood.

I only post photos as payback in thanks for those who do it because I learn so much from some photographs.

RE: photos

I use Flickr instead of Photobucket for pics here on Gardenweb. My digital photo software downloads directly to Flickr and it's easy to pick up the coding to paste here.

I like Photobucket too, but I use it for other purposes. I noticed PB has unlimited free storage now - but I don't post pics here that often so Flickr works best for me even though its storage capacity is smaller.

RE: photos

Gean, are you saying that when you download your photos from your camera to your computer that they go automatically to Flickr as well?

That might make it almost easy enough to deal with..... The multi-step process of downloading a picture from the camera to the computer and then loggong onto Photobucket and uploading it there to get a link to post here just keeps me from grabbing my camera and dashing outside to take pictures of what is on my mind.

RE: photos

no, Susan, I have to select which photos I want to go to flickr. Not everything goes there. I leave my flickr account open to the public; it is just an accumulation of the photos I have posted here or garden shots I might post at some time. Also one of my cat :)

I can also choose to send them to facebook or to email as well. The software is called "I Photo."

This is a lot easier than downloading the pics and then uploading to Photobucket and then getting the coding and then pasting it to gardenweb. But I did that for a number of years before switching to this, so know what you're talking about. but it's just getting into a routine and a habit more than anything else. I used to just leave a window open for both Photobucket and here and switched between the two windows to paste. It can be aggravating though.

RE: photos

Thanks, Gean. I guess I will just wait until GW gets with the program and lets us upload photos directly from our computers (I know, I know, I'm just dreaming). Until then it is more trouble than it's worth -- except in unusual circumstances: if/as/when I need it to acquire information or impart information and simply must upload a picture here.

RE: photos

I personally wouldn't upload photos here even if we could--just take a look at this site's terms...

"By submitting content, which shall include your member name, to any "public area" of the GardenWeb Network, including, but not limited to, the forums and your personal website, exchange page and journal, you grant iVillage a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right (including any moral rights) and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, sublicense, assign, derive revenue or other remuneration from, communicate to the public, perform and display the content (in whole or in part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed, for the full term of any Rights that may exist in such content."

I don't see how such a thing is even legal, since creators of content (photos) automatically get copyright protection under the law at the moment of creation, but having my photos elsewhere makes me feel more protected anyway. The only "content" I'm adding to this site is a link to my photo, not the photo itself.

RE: photos

Hmmmm....that is pretty unfriendly, isn't it.

Maybe it's just as well that they've made it too hard to upload photos....keeps those of us who never read the fine print out of trouble...:-))))
