Ebb Tide vs Reines des Violletts

I thought I really wanted RdV but I have been reading how temperamental she can be and not a great repeat bloomer. And I have also seen Ebb Tide compared to RdV in this forum so I would be interested to see what posters would recommend! I want fragrance and good re-bloom thru spring, summer and fall, not asking much lol.:). I have also read that RdV does well in a more shaded area and I do have the perfect spot if that's the case. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice.

Bonnie

I think both of them, like most purple roses, prefer a more shady area, especially in the afternoon. A lot of mauve/purple roses are finicky, and for me Ebb Tide burned even where it had afternoon shade. I hope someone will respond from your area to give you a more definitive answer.

I also would love to see what people have to say about this comparison, I have recently added RDV to my list of must try's, I have Ebb Tide right now, and out of all my 12 in-ground roses, it has had the most trouble getting established, (all of my roses are in their first year). For a while I thought it was a goner, but just last week it sprouted something like 3 new basal canes and 3 or 4 new off-shoots from old canes after sitting there doing absolutely nothing for months when all my other roses were growing vigorously & blooming like crazy. I don't know what I did to break from its weird dormancy, but it might have been the banana smoothies I've been giving them lately ( I just blend up my old rotten bananas or banana peels with water, dilute that down pretty good & pour it around each rose) I started doing this when I read about roses love for potassium & I think it has really helped to encourage new growth & therefore bloom. I always hear people talk about Ebb Tide like it is such a reliable re-bloomer, and now hopefully I will experience that side of my Ebb Tide too.

Ebb tide was often a deep shade of burgundy and only that deep smokey purple in cooler Spring & fall temps for me.

Jessica your banana smoothies for your roses is very interesting, that's what I call being resourceful and using what you have, sounds like it's working for your Ebb Tide.
Ingrid thanks for commenting on Ebb Tide, good to know how the heat makes the blooms crispy, it's gets very hot in the summer but we also have high humidity where I live so it's not a dry heat. I'm looking forward to heating what others have to say about these two roses.
