Rosa spinosissima 'Suzanne'

I'm in love with black rose hips and I have to have her!

Specifically I'm looking for 'Suzanne' as she has a reputation for good repeat bloom, which is important in my small yard.

Anyone know of a source for a fall-shipped Suzanne? Or an anytime-shipped Suzanne ;)? I've looked around but I can't seem to locate one anywhere.

Many thanks!

Elisabeth

Mine have never repeated. And I have had four from two different suppliers, one the son of the hybridizer.

If you find her available ANYWHERE, please let me know because I can't find Suzanne either. I missed out getting one the final season Pickering had her, and I was on the waiting list for 2 of them from High Country Roses (but their mother plant died). Paul Barden has bred an offspring of her that is just stunning, see the Help Me Find link below. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this rose is released into commerce.

The spinosissimas are particularly excellent in my area because of their drought tolerance, that is one reason why I'm so enthusiastic about adding more.

Melissa,
I'm no longer considering that hybrid for commercial purposes, sorry.

'Suzanne' is sometimes a good repeater in some people's gardens, and in others, it blooms once. I can't explain it, unless there are impostors being distributed under that name. In my experience, it repeats reasonably well, with distinct pauses between flushes. Mine gets full blazing sun from dawn till dusk FWIW.

Suzanne "repeated" here in Encino and in Newhall, but it was not what I would call "continuous" flowering. It usually gave spring and some fall flowers and grew ENORMOUS! It was healthy and pretty, but never set many hips, none of which ever approached anything resembling "black". The few which formed remained green until they dried up. I couldn't provide it with the acreage it demanded for the quantity of flower it provided so it has gone on to a friend's garden. Kim

Why not just stick with reliable Double White - all the black heps you could ever want, on a mannerly well rounded bush which looks as good in leaf as it does in bloom? Available everywhere.

Looks like I will try Double White-- thanks all for the information! And what a beautiful photo.

Happy rose-ing.
