I would think that either location should work. I have a LARGE tea rose planted next to the house up here in Western Washington where it was plenty happy for years. The Japanese Maples planted to the South of it have grown to the point of shading it most of the afternoon and it stills grows and blooms well. It gets maybe 6 hours a day of sun split between morning and afternoon.

Thanks paparoseman, I think I'll place it along the fence, I'm worried that 10 hours of sun will fry the blooms.
