Russelliana

I got some cuttings of Russelliana from Linda. Looking for more info, I noticed there are two different but similar Russelliana's on HMF. How do I tell which is which or are they really the same just a dispute about the source information? Both are listed as pre 1826.

She said the rose was on their property when they purchased the house. It is a once bloomer and was done blooming when I got cuttings. It should be a big girl, but it was hard to tell because it was growing in a hedge as well.

If it was the Hybrid Sempervirens what would I look for vs the Hybrid Multiflora? I think she has it listed as HMultiflora but I was curious about the listing.

I took the cuttings almost a month ago and I have little green "horns" so I am thinking I will have at least one plant.

Thanks!

It would likely be the Multiflora -- that's what we find all over.

Take a look at the stipule. Let me see if I can find a photo for you. OK. The shot below shows you the rough foliage, not a good look at stipule.

But if you look closely at this image from Mottisfont Abbey:

you can just see the wildly-fringed stipule.

Back when ARE had a presence (and wonderful garden) in Dahlonaga Georgia, they had Russeliana growing up the whole height of their two story building. The leaves were a vibrant deep green, the canes were mighty, and the blooms were too far off the ground to see.

I'm sorry this was lost. The one shown here is in a NoCal cemetery, and has been preserved by the efforts of a new local Heritage Roses Group. For which I am incredibly grateful!
