There is a 'Robinette' at Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT that I have observed for several years. It grows in full sun and is a typical rambler in size and growth habit. The flowers are in large clusters and have very distinctive long golden filaments with very bright pink petals; the contrast is very appealing.

Hi. I'm growing Robinette but it is only 2 years old. Mine is growing like a weed in southeast exposure. Blooms were very pretty but I didn't notice a fragrance. I like its habit! Susan

Yes, thanks for asking; I'm still growing it, and like it more every year. The blossoms have a cheerful innocence which I find appealing; and the little waxy red-orange hips are distinctive and attractive. I can't address its shade tolerance, as it's in one of the sunniest positions in my garden--sun from all directions over the course of the day. It's on a fence, and so its habit is, by the constraints of its site, that of a Rambler; I don't know how it would shape itself if it were free-standing. No disease problems, grows vigorously once established (mine waited two or three years before declaring itself "established"), quietly beautiful foliage. It tends to have its bloom season just as we're getting a heat wave here, so for me it's often not in bloom very long; but any dead petals which hold on quickly come off when the plant gets a shower from the hose and so the plant is always neat and tidy, and, the flowers gone, one has the hips to look forward to. This variety merits more popularity!

Thanks for your input everyone. I hope to give it a try. Diane

mmm, would really like that one. There are scads of single reds....but often with very white eyes - a look I often find busy and distracting.....but that is delicious.
