| I couldn't let this thread end; I'm not sure I ever want it to end. Every day there are more wonderful pictures of lovely rose people and the persons, animals and gardens they cherish. I must admit, with the exception of those whom I'm already familiar with and Kim and odinthor, no one has looked as I expected them to. I can say, though, that everyone is delightful, with honesty and humor in their eyes. Be still my heart - odinthor, are you Brent Dickerson????? If so, I hope the training of the mice and appropriate jewelry for them has overcome its various hurdles..... Ingrid |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Many thanks, Jon, for your very kind comments at the end of part no. 1 of the thread! Yes indeed, Ingrid--thanks for asking: odinthor is Brent C. Dickerson. Back in the dark ages when folks were first choosing e-mail monikers, mostly first initials plus all or part of the surname, I didn't think that "bdick" had quite the gravitas desired, so I called upon the gods of my Swedish ancestors and adopted "odinthor," which I've continued to use whenever it seemed appropriate... The mice, while in general showing a marked improvement in accent, can't seem to shake the habit of gnawing on their costumes. At times, it is very discouraging. My own costumes vary (though I'm proud to state here and now that I don't gnaw on them). For instance, last week, I jettisoned the silk tie and was to be found in a big Western hat, band-collar shirt, and black Levis, getting into the spirit of things at Old Town San Diego, where the only identifiable Old Roses I could find were the Rose of Castile and perhaps some parched specimens of 'Mutabilis'. And, yup, all I have to say is: "Old Roses--Smile when you say that, pardner!" |

| I "Double Dog Dare" you to post a self photo in gardening "attire" :D
Okay, so Mom ran and put on a clean shirt and I am wearing my "nice" gardening outfit (Hahaha) Only a bit of blue-glue on the pants and a "nice" farm tan. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Hi Kippy: I'm glad to see you and your Mom ... which reminds me of my Mom. She was sick earlier. She's in Connecticut now with my sister, I miss my Mom when I see your picture. Kippy, your garden look so lush and beautiful in the background ... I see sun flowers and banana tree, and a very nice white fence. I hope Seil will repost her picture here, since I meant to ask her about the names of her roses pictured, but the thread got too long! Also Bluegirl played pranks on me in the original thread, she posted link to herself as the incorruptible body of Saint Agatha, then a link to a she-devil in costume. I was about to retort by a link to my picture as a sumo-wrestler, but I didn't have a chance. Bluegirl, I hope you post your REAL picture now ... or else I'll repost that video of your rose helper jumping around in diaper. |

| Strawberry, the top photo was taken in our lower garden. Those are fruit trees and veggies behind us and the volunteer sunflowers. The row of green-green beans, the shade cloth covered green house with open ends-a test on growing semi hot house cucumbers. And in front of the picket fence is a new mandarine-Gold Nugget. The bottom photo, the rose with a candelabra as tall as Mom, Bishops Castle and yes bananas |

| Wow. I had no idea a thread could reach a maximum number of comments. Kind of like breaking the bank. Odinthor, glad you are now unmasked. I always wondered who was behind that name. Looking forward to more pictures. Diane |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| Kippy, you look much too nice to be gardening. Trust me, I never look like that. It's so nice to see your sweet mom too. I've always been so touched by how much you consider her welfare and happiness, and plan the garden for her pleasure. Odinthor seems very appropriate, Brent, in view of your heritage. You weren't all that far from me when you were in San Diego; if you'd had the time you could have viewed my sun-parched garden and wilting roses (Mutabilis included) the same day. Ingrid |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| The other day we had to go into town to pick up a car at the shop. I left my gardening attire on and prayed the whole time that nothing would happen because if anyone saw me like that they'd think I'd been living under a bridge for ten years. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| This has been a really nice thread. Thanks for initiating it, Ingrid. I think it would be terrific to do a before and after sort of a thing; "before" being one of those pictures of yourself that you actually like and "after," well what you look like after eight hours of gardening. A few years ago, Jon in Wessex posted a link to pictures of his garden. I still look at them all the time for ideas and inspiration. There is a particularly lovely shot of what I think is Ballerina Climbing after a rain. And there is also a photo of a deep magenta-purply-colored delphinium, which I'm sure I've never seen before and that I covet. Well, anyway, they are all gorgeous. Here's the link: https://plus.google.com/photos/112914890409620217127/albums/5477536303934976625?banner=pwa |

A picture of me in my gardening clothes doesn't exist...and, hopefully, never will. I don't know why I can't seem to find something comfortable that isn't torn, stained, or ill-fitting to work outdoors. Oh, and the shoes that I wear in my garden are horrific! Molly |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| I have enjoyed this so much ... making everyone's acquaintance and putting names and user IDs with faces is a wonderful way to start the day. In answer to Kippy's challenge, I submit a photo taken at Hollywood Cemetery on Rose Day in March ... of Donald, the grounds supervisor, and me. I love this picture! What instantly struck me as I first saw it is that Donald and I are wearing the exact same pants, black Wrangler cargo pants from Walmart. (these are my go-to work pants because they are super comfortable and they have a pocket on the left leg that is perfect for pruners.) |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Connie, I'm sorry, but you look much too glamorous to be initiated into the "look at me in my hideous gardening clothes" pantheon. You will have to put much more effort into this....... I have a cute pic of me, attired in an old-lady house dress and ratty sandals, sans make-up, but my courage fails me. Ingrid |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Wrangler cargo pants with leg pocket--duly noted. Thanks! Anne |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| Oh Boy, those cargo pants come in a few colors...even camo-thinking black would be rather hot here. I was rather dirty yesterday, cleaning out a very gross dirty storeroom, I did wipe my face before the photo or I would have had a few streaks of grime lol |

| Kippy, nice to see you and your mom! And, nice banana tree! (My mom is a banana-tree fanatic, a gene I have fortunately not inherited as it would be labor-intensive to keep one going here in Livermore. It is labor-intensive in Santa Rosa, too, but that doesn't stop her.) A picture of my best gardening shoes, below. You don't want to see the rest. Looking like I've been living under a bridge for 10 years -- Pam, I can relate! Even worse, I think, is realizing, after running into town in such a state, that you have mud caked all over your arms or legs, too... |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Very funny postings about gardening grunge-attire. One thing about the heat and not being able to get outside to work in my yard; I'm somewhat cleaner during the summer! |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| catspa---I love the shoes----I had a pair that we finally had to throw away because they were full of mold---I hated to part with them becaus my feet are so big I have trouble finding comfortable shoes Ingrid----I would love to see you in those clothes Florence |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

I can't find any photos of myself or my DH. Here is an old one from the first full year in my Cretan garden. Me in my tatty old shorts and tee-shirt, working on the first border.

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Ingrid, I've been called a LOT of things, but 'glamorous' has never been one of them. I guess I was clean on the day of our Rose Day at Hollywood, because I was supervising and advising instead of getting on hands and knees and working. Florence, I totally understand the plight of a woman with oversized feet, size 11 here (size 42 EUR) It's tempting to wear a comfortable pair of gardening shoes until they fall apart. Honestly, some of my best gardening shoes have come from the men's department ... ... like my gardening cargo pants. I got the black pair specifically for when I needed to look a bit better than normal working grunge. My three pairs of khaki colored ones are in various stages of broken in ... including one with paint splotches ... doing double duty as painting clothes, too. When I look my absolute filthy worst, I'm alone and there's no one around to capture the moment. Imagine this pixie hair of mine sweaty and sticking straight up ... add some dirt smudges on my face and shirt, from wiping my face with either my gloves or the tail of my shirt, and you have a pretty accurate picture of my work-a-day status. I'll bet most of us look the same under the circumstances. |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| One of my neighbors seems to stay glamorous while working in the garden. White long sleeved shirt-white t shirt-jeans with a touch of dirt at the knees, hair in a nice chignon twist.....some people seem to be able to live glamorous. Me, ugly step-sister. Maybe part of gardening is having big feet? I have a bad foot so I always buy shoes a tad larger. And just forgetting and wearing them twice on a gardening day and brand new sneakers are wiped out gardening shoes. Most of my gardening gear has a spot of Cala/Banana/Tomato plant juice that does not come out, shirts are usually patterned to "hide" some of the grime, my poor sloggers hat...faded-sweated-painted, do not look too close. Even my sun glasses are beat up. I have worked to remember to get to moms, sit down and change shoes and sunglasses first. Then take a walk. Of course my clothing starts out behind, my favorite "mall" is a thrift store $2 Wednesday. A tad too big makes it perfect for garden work. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| Girls, I think we're going to have to stop waxing eloquently about how bad we look. Have you noticed that the men have practically disappeared? Just kidding guys, we all look like Barbie dolls when we're "doing" the garden, painted fingernails and false eyelashes on everyone...... Daisy, it's so nice to see a picture of you. I had always pictured you as being a little older, considering the level of your garden talent and the huge, glorious garden in Cornwall. Looking at what you started with in Crete, I'm astounded at what you've achieved in a short period of time. I know I'll never forget your incredible Marechal Niel (and they say that rose is fussy; someone forgot to tell yours). Ingrid |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| I really hate having my picture taken but my husband took this snapshot of me watering our berry patch. Not much to see because I always wear lots of clothes to avoid the sun and the mosquitos. |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

Ingrid, I am 63 in that photo, I am 66 now. I am also another with big feet! I take size 9 and a half or 10 U.K. size, which I think is size 12 in the U.S.A. and Canada. Most of my shoes are sandals which are too small for me, but my toes can hang over the front where they get filthy in the garden!!! Daisy |

| LOL, Ingrid. My husband is an active member of the rock-climbing community, where female climbers wear the "dirt Barbie" label with pride. I'm not a rock-wall-climber (so acrophobic, in fact, I can't climb higher than the 4th step of a ladder), but I'm a type of "dirt Barbie", I think, as are many here, from the look of things : ). I am fascinated by the possible correlation between women gardeners and big feet. Is there evolutionary significance? Are big feet better adapted to spading or what? Size 11 here, too. Could Kim, Paul, or someone who knows fill in the names of the other folks in the Ralph Moore photo? Obviously a legendary group and of interest. |

| But, it's also sweetly wonderful seeing those faces again and remembering the great friends they were. Back row, left to right: Me (Kim), John (whose last name escapes me as I type this. He filmed the documentary on Ralph, which is why we were there at Sequoia. This is when Mel brought me the huge ice chest of Annie Laurie McDowell.); Mel Hulse and Paul Barden. Front row, left to right, Carolyn Supinger, the heart, brain, force and soul of Sequoia Nursery and without whom, Ralph Moore would have died a full decade before he did; Ralph Moore; Burling Leong, Burlington Roses. Thank you, Paul! Kim |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| I "sinned by omission" inadvertently.... Virtually all pollinations and all budding was accomplished by Burling's expert hands for MANY years. Probably 99% of the own root plants sent out by Sequoia were presonally propagated by Carolyn. Without Carolyn's and her labor, nothing that was done on those six acres in easily ten-plus years would have been accomplished. They were the "chief cooks and bottle washers" as well as virtually the entire work force. Occasionally a hired hand was brought in to accomplish some Herculean task, but theirs were the hands that did all the rose work as well as all maintenance, including plumbing. Sometimes, Carolyn's husband or Burling's brother may have been pressed into service, but theirs were the hands that did whatever was needed. No plant was sold without going through Carolyn. No commercial budding or propagating contract occurred without Burling. Ralph hadn't sold a plant or anything else in decades. It was as if he didn't know how. Estimating their monetary value would be impossible. Kim |

| Thank you again for creating this community gathering. I appreciate every photo and enjoy every story. I find myself coming back often to look up the face of someone when I read their comments on other posts. I got thinking that my favorite photo of Geoff & me (hiding behind sunglasses) on vacation in San Fran didn't tell a story, so here's another. Here's my family on a trek to my Grandmother’s grave in northern Vermont on Mother's Day. I enjoy exploring graveyards, an odd hobby which has its roots with my Grandmother who instilled in me a love of history and ancestry. Incidentally there was one single living rose in the graveyard, a sad, weather-beaten, spindly old rugosa. Poor thing, I wanted to adopt it but my family wouldn't let me. The day before I had received my new Climbing American Beauty, all covered in blooms and so I snipped them to bring to Grandma's grave. We planted some speedwell which had come from her own garden, and I brought home and planted some of the pussytoes that was growing there. My Grandmother was the daughter of humble missionaries and was ceaselessly thrifty. Her gardens were full of lovingly tended wildflowers, treasures shared from the gardens of friend and neighbors, fruits and vegetables grown from seeds saved from food, all fertilized by kitchen compost and watered from the rain barrel before such things were fashionable. This year I’m thrilled to finally have a place in my garden for Grandma’s wonderful old rambler, keeping her legacy alive for the next generation. I'm the one in the hat. The lady to my right looking young enough to be my sister is my Mom. My Mom is one of those people who are born with 10 green thumbs. Everything she grows is marvelous, but vegetable gardening is her passion. For over 30 years she has been the top prize winner in the veggie division at the Topsfield Fair, and would be undefeated except for the year that she was recuperating from bone tumor surgery. Even that year she managed to keep a garden and win some ribbons. The two young ladies are my lovely and talented daughters who would just die if they knew I was posting their photos and writing about them online. Bailey is beside me, and Grace is standing by her tall handsome boyfriend. The other handsome guys are my brother in the beard, and Geoff my best friend and hubby, in the shades. |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| I guessed from the picture Kim, Ralph Moore, Burling and of course the big hippie dude, Paul Barden. Hm, it does sound from Kim's statement that the women did all the drudge work and generally kept things going.....sounds a lot like real life throughout the ages. It was very gracious of you, Kim, though, to pay them all due respect and laud their efforts. My shoe size is 5 1/2 so I must not be a "real" gardener, which of course is true because I can only do the easy things. My husband (size 9 1/2) is also not a gardener but willingly does what I ask him to. His biggest flaw is that he invariably puts a plant in the ground with the "wrong" side to the front unless I watch him like a hawk. You really can't expect more from a computer geek whose main interests are military history and astronomy. Marianne, what I can see of your garden is a pattern of neatness, and I love the leafy background. It is SO good to see all the pictures. Daisy, that was a typo, right, you meant 36? Lesley, I'm glad you joined in the picture marathon. Your doggie looks like such a sweetheart. Ingrid |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| Thank you, Ingrid, but the reality of it was those ladies worked like field hands, five and six days a week, year in and year out. They MADE Sequoia Nursery what it was the last thirty-five years of its existence. Had Carolyn not been a virtual daughter, personal secretary, business manager, production manager, sole sales force and all, it would have ceased to exist many, many years before it did. Had she not been there to look after Ralph after his wife died, he would have had to have moved from there and that would have killed him. None of his family had time nor inclination to take on the responsibility. It was much more than a 'job', it was personal responsibility, integrity and loyalty. Kim |

| Ingrid, never fear -- "correlation is not causation" is a scientific cliche because it is usually true (we live for the time it is true...). You are obviously a "real" gardener (a term that encompasses more territory than moving earth, like the ability to recognize the "right" and "wrong" sides of a plant, for example). It may be, however, that big-footed gardeners have greater tendency to be earth-movers...more study obviously required. Marianne's comment on wearing lots of clothes reminded me of gardening in the woods of MA in May/June, where that was a necessity, with addition of a conical hat with netting attached to protect face and neck. The black flies were so bad that the mosquitoes (arriving a bit later in the season) were a relief in comparison. Unfortunately, no photos of me in that garb. |

| Great pictures; this thread keeps getting better and better. I love seeing the picture of Ralph Moore and the other rosarians. I feel like I've been given a peek into rose history. I'm a great devotee of the psychologist, Carl Jung, and there are pictures of him with other great psychologists of his day, Freud and others at meetings and seminars they attended. I love those pictures as it gives me a sense of the people who were behind their great work. I had a similar feeling when I saw the pictures posted above of Ralph Moore and others. Like that picture gave me a sense of the people behind the great work done with roses. Wonderful. I love the other pictures posted too: ratdogshead---GREAT picture and Lesley and Huck, all the others too. It always amazes me the love people have and show for their animals. They are very important beings. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| Florence, it doesn't seem possible, but you actually look chic in that outfit. Reminds me of Victorian times when ladies often wore veils. By the way what is that fantastic rose bush behind you? It goes really well with the top you're wearing. Ingrid |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| I thought Florence looks like a young, hot & chic astronaut in space. I wonder the same about that pretty rose bush behind her. Below is a picture of kid sniffing Golden Celebration, which reminds me that we have a rose-legacy to pass on to the next generation. Life without roses is dull ... my daily walk would be utterly boring if I only see grasses & trees, and same old annuals. The highlight of my walk is sneaking up to my neighbor to sniff her Rock & Roll rose. I caught someone else sniffing my lilac bush in the front, and I was pleased. I want to thank that house in Michigan with a big rose garden in front, that was the highlight of my long walk home from junior high. Stop and smell the roses is far better than kids burying their heads in computer or TV. |

RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| HI Grace: That picture is lovely ... I wish my husband would had taken pic. of me and my girl together in the garden. It would bring back fond memories. That's a nice garden you have, reminds me of Michigan where we grew lots of veges on our 5-acre land. Now in Chicagoland I planted too many trees, 26 of them ... if not for my losing battle with black spots & giving up on roses in the last house, I would not had made that mistake of planting trees. My sister spent $10,000 chopping down the trees that she planted decades ago. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| I probably should have taken a photo as I left moms today...but was worried I would scare you all. We got a truck load of wood chips dropped off, pushed the wheel barrows up the hill about 50 times after loading them at the bottom of the hill. 86 degrees and 70% humidity....red face, dripping and dusty...more typical of me in the garden. |

| This was a great idea Ingrid! We represent a pretty diverse demographic, don't we? It's lovely to see everyone's faces, and bonus points to the brave souls who showed off their fancy gardening costumes! I'll play, though I haven't been gardening long enough to actually have pics of me IN the garden (thank goodness). This one is my 9 month old son Rex and I on vacation for the 4th. (Horrendous rain while I was gone; garden looked sad on my return but things are perking up again). Don't let my pic break your monitors! |

| Hi kids, I just got back from my first road trip across the US for the Gettysburg 150th anniv. and I missed out on all the fun. Here's mine from a few weeks ago on a hike to a waterfall in Shenandoah Natnl. Park. Sweated all my makeup off and just sat down to rest when my lovey took this. Nice to see all of you when I got back. |

| I am enjoying all of your pictures. I mostly read and look at all of your pretty rose pictures and given advice, but I am glad to put a face with your names. I do not have a picture of myself, I usualky take them! I may ask my hubby to take one today. Florence, I love you netting outfit; what a great idea! René |

| Good looking folks on this forum! :) Melanie: Your pic with your adorable son, Rex, melted my heart. My first "baby" is a teenager and my second "baby" is almost a tween. Oh my...time flies by. I have a pic of my rose bro, paparoseman and me somewhere on an external hard drive. I will need to find it. I don't have a selfie pic yet. But how about an enticing pic of my favorite rose, Lynnie, to represent me today? |

| Hi Florence and Ingrid: My shoes size used to be 5, until I gave birth, and my feet exploded to size 7 ... more like duck feet, than elephant. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)

| I notoriously never take photos of myself, but since I am all but wearing our foster (abandoned by her feral mother) kitten, I've snuck into a few.
Fingers crossed for her. Still very mad at myself for being so tired after getting used to nighttime feedings again and not sending in one of those first Vintage orders on Sunday...but...well...as I've already said, priorities! Only issue is that it's going to make it VERY hard to remove the NOID OGR that she was born behind. I was about to commit to do it next year but...now I'm sentimental... Cheers! ~Anika |

me too, Ingrid.....although annoyingly, Reuben still gets mistaken for my 'son' (cos he is skinny, with his own non-grey hair (not too dissimilar to your chap, Ingrid) - unlike me). I would gnash my teeth if I still had 'em (must be a clue there) although my dog hairdresser did ask if I was a cougar!! Suspect the fact that the dog has a hairdresser while I cut (hack) my own hair might also have something to do with the general assumption of old bat syndrome. |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| Well, Cecil doesn't get mistaken for my son since he has a lot of lines (misspent youth in the oil fields sans moisturizer and sun block), but I felt he resembled Reuben in that they're both thin, with un-gray hair (although I found his first one the other day) and pierced ear. For some reason I go for aging- rocker types with long hair, scraggly beard and no hips. They just have to be tireless diggers in the garden..... Ingrid |

| Florence, that mosquito get-up is FABULOUS. Given all the rain we are having here, I probably should invest in something like that. My DH threw a tantrum tonight and said he "simply could not take it anymore and was going inside"... well, I kept on at it despite the bug bites because there were roses that needed dead-heading and dahlias to stake and weeds to pull. It is a full time job to stay on top everything this year but things are lush and healthy so I can't complain. Grace & all the others with children-wonderful to nurture little gardeners. That is my goal and dream. Ratdogheads- what a lovely tribute. I caught the gardening bug from my grandfather. I remember seed trays and grow lights everywhere inside his house as a child. I hope he's proud of how I've carried on. Great thread everybody! Edited to add a lovely shot of one of my carefree beauty roses fading after her first flush. (White pet, I think, in front.) Not nearly as grand as the one Florence has but not a bad show for her second season.

| I raised a little feral kitten with a botttle. It's hard work but I loved that kitty so much that I didn't mind at all. I slept on the floor with him and he was right there with me all the time. He loved to go everywhere with us in the car and was so smart. He thought he was another person except better because he could climb and jump. |

| Anika, my fingers are crossed for her, too. What a sweetheart... my feral pair were older when I kit-napped them (ca 4 weeks and a few days), so I weaned them and didn't have to bottle-feed, but they are still, like Kittymoonbeam's kitty, much more social and human-tuned than any other of the numerous cats I have had. I was writing my master's thesis at the time I grabbed them and they sat in my lap for days on end as I sat in front of the computer. Luigi, in fact, was so smart that he "edited" my paper for me if I turned my head for even a second (I learned the value of the "save" function in those days). :-) There will always be more great, rare roses down the road than any one of us can raise. |

| I Love liitle ferral kitties---my daughter rescued a litter and they all turned out to be wonderful cats Belle you are right---the rose behind me is Carefree Beauty----I have three and it is a great rose--the first one I bought at the Antique Rose Emporium in Texas when I was visiting my sister and it was called "Katy Road Pink" (a found rose) ------after posting pictures on GW I received a nice note form G.Bucks daughter telling me it was her father's rose Carefree Beauty If you scroll down after the picture of me in the net shirt I posted three more pictures of CB---- Between the heat ---the skeeters and my age I pretty much stay in the AC---- Florence |
RE: Pictures of Us (continued)
| | |
| I hope the rose in front of Carefree Beauty is White Pet, since I have one and that picture shows it to be very beautiful. I have some slight doubt, though, because on other pictures I've seen White Pet looks somewhat different. Carefree Beauty as always looks wonderful. I wish I had tried it long ago. I loved the comments about the feral kitties; if taken young enough they seem to very much imprint on their human "mommies". Ingrid |

| Strawberryhill, Ingrid, and Florence - thank you so much for your sweet comments about my photo! I'm beyond grateful to have stumbled across such a fabulous group of people. :) Now if we can start a forum about pictures of roses AND rescued kittens, my life will be complete! |

| Little Nanite kitten passed away in the wee hours on Sunday while nestled warm and cozy in my husband's pocket. She was just too small and her body couldn't keep up with her spirit. I drove the entire city to find just the right statuary for the garden and I found it...and now she's buried in the exact spot where she was born and found. Full circle.

Such a sad story---but what a wonderful thing that she went to sleep cozy and warm and loved in your hubby's pocket----I love the statuary -- it is perfect for the kitty. Florence |

| Anika, what you wrote brought tears to my eyes. Your little baby's life was all too short but from the moment she was in your hands her life changed and became everything good. You gave her that, and a beautiful memorial to her little spirit. We have three male feral cats that come on our property out in the country and my heart goes out to them. Twice they have left the entrails of rabbits on the front door mat which is a mystery since they won't let us come near. I won't feed them but do leave leftovers at night far from the house, which are always gone by morning, and have fresh water in different places for any animal that needs it. These cats' lives are short and cruel, and I despise the people who do this to them. Ingrid |

| Anika, How sad, but bless you for trying and giving that kitten a loved life, however brief, and peaceful death and remembrance. I do think, Ingrid, that if people were to personally witness the horrible diseases and agonizing deaths most feral cats suffer, it might go a long way toward motivating spaying/neutering of pets. I have observed the deaths of more than a dozen here in ten years. It is virtually impossible to catch them for treatment or humane euthanization even within a few hours of death, their fear of humans being so strong; I have only managed to do so for two, one of which was a kitten about the age of yours, Anika, who eventually died of the distemper that killed his feral mother. |

Since heirlooms annual half off sale last year (where a friend took me and I fell head over heels) I've collected around 30 roses! Here's an iPhone snap my husband took of me and my boys on Mother's Day. I'm really glad to have found this forum! |

Thank you everyone! I feel very welcome. Roses are the little bit of "me" time I squeeze in for myself. I try to leave the majority of the yard kid friendly, but when they are grown I'm sure I'll delve into it much more! Here are a few photos of my roses for belle_va charlotte
