Full sun in Southern Oregon

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone who has experience growing OGRs in southern Oregon can help me out with some pointers -

Which ones will do well in full sun during our hot summers?

Conversely, which ones will fry in the full sun here?

I've looked at some of the other threads on the topic of full sun, but it looks like most of the info is concerning SoCal, Texas, or Las Vegas - our sun intensity is much less due to the higher latitude; so it seems there should be a wider variety that will do well here in full sun, and fewer that will fry.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Thanks
SG

There is an old rose nursery in Medford, which is very near the CA border in So Oregon. It is called Rogue Valley Roses. I would call (do not email - they are very small, and it can take days for them to get to emails) and ask this question. If the person who answers the phone does not really know, ask to speak to someone who does (I have had several very good conversations with the owner, who was very helpful.)They have several acres of roses growing right there, so they will know. I would also check on their website.

Thanks for the advice, Jackie! The staff at RVR has had a lot on their plate for the past few months, so I've hesitated to take up their time...maybe things will ease off for them in the fall and I can ask them then.

Best,

Perhaps you could just go visit and get permission to look around their gardens - I have done that and they were fin with it. They have acres of mature roses, most of which are labeled - you could see yourself which ones are doing well in that climate.

If the sun is less intense where you are, I would just ignore what rose growers in CA, TX, and Las Vegas say. Their advice would not be applicable to your conditions.

Gardeners in the Midwest and along the Atlantic might have info on the sun hardiness of roses that would be more applicable.

A friend relocated a few years back from Southern California to The Valley of The Rogue -- If it is helpful to you, I could perhaps put you in touch.
