| This is a real loss for some of us and they are going to be missed, big time. :There isn't anyone else making good OGRs available on multiflora rootstock dependably. I really hope they can come through with their plans for the future, for all the good roses they've sold over the decades. |

| If you go to an independent garden center around here some days it seems everyone is filling their carts with vegetable starts and the like. I am surprised a few of the operators in this market are turning over as much woody ornamental material as they apparently are. Rose offerings are definitely not what they were some years ago. Some more years ago there were hardly any Old Garden etc. roses being stocked by stores here at all. The multiple recent closings of rose specialists would suggest that general interest has waned once again. |

| That is really sad. A good number of my roses from many years ago came from Pickering. They are a great business. It's another loss for the rose world. |

| Roses are "out" right now, and it affects sellers, unfortunately. They'll be back "in", eventually. They always are. |

| This is very sad news. Hopefully Pickering will be back in 2015. There were obviously problems with how regulations were being interpreted, and this hurt the quality of their roses. In 2013, when Pickering couldn't ship to the US, I ordered 3 roses from them for friends in Canada. All 3 died. This year I ordered 6 roses for myself. They arrived in really bad shape (nothing like in past years) and completely bone dry/shriveled. I doused them with water and got them planted ASAP. Four of them never broke dormancy (Wasagaming, Madame Plantier, Sophie's Perpetual, and Lavender Lassie). One leafed out and grew vigorously like their roses always have for me. That rose is Nevada. The other rose, the beautiful rugosa Schneezwerg, is still struggling, with only a sparse amount of leaves on about 50% of the plant. The other canes are dead. No, I never complained to Pickering because I knew they were still reeling from the regulation nightmare and didn't want to make things worse. With all the great roses I've gotten from them, this was an aberration. So I guess for the coming year, I can order for the first time from Palatine. Roses on multiflora do excellently for me, and they do have some roses I really want, although not some of the roses Pickering usually carries such as Wasagaming and Fruhlingsgold. Melissa |

| Melissa, I was very happy with my order from Palatine this year. Their selection seemed to be similar to Pickering's recent offerings. I understand that Pickering at one time had a lot of harder to find roses but the past few years those were not being propagated. It's interesting that Pickering says they hope to offer rooted cuttings rather than grafted plants in 2016. |

| Oh dear... all my experiences with pickeringnurseries.com were good ones, too. I've ordered dozens of roses from them, with each and every cultivar labeled properly and in good health. They are, by far my favorite large rose nursery. Lux. |

| Deeply sorry to hear this. If this goes on, private and public collections will become even more valuable than they already are. We may well need to share with each other if we want new roses. Next thing you know, book stores will start to close. Oh, I forgot. That already happened. Rosefolly |

| Very sad news. Pickering nurseries was one of my favorites and many of my roses came from them. Multiflora rootstock does best in my area and there aren't any U.S. sources for it that I know of, only a few Canadian nurseries, so I am sorry to hear they may offer own-root roses in the future. |

| So sad! All 14 of the roses I ordered from them four years ago, when I was just starting with roses, are still doing well. I wanted to order a bunch of hybrid perpetuals from them next year. Too bad about all the troubles they had, and Mr. Joel losing his dad. I wish them the best of luck! |

| This really is awful! I loved Pickering, they were always great to do business with, and they provided wonderful plants. It seems like we are quickly losing so many of our sources for OGRs and anything other than Knock outs! I think its a good idea for all of us to try to work on our cutting-taking skills so we can preserve the roses we love. So many of the beautiful old roses may become unavailable to American gardeners - in fact, with the passing of Vintage, a lot are already lost to us. Really sad. |
