Good news about Pickering

Just looked in at the Pickering website and there is a message that says they'll expect to start shipping again to the USA in the spring. Nice to know.

That is good news! Thanks for letting us know.

I am an own-root advocate, but I am getting tired of Runaround Sue behavior from my gallicas. I plan to invest in grafted gallicas if they still offer them.

I'm happy for them and for us. I hated the damage to their business that the shipping ban caused them.

I want to recommend Palatine roses, another Canadian grower. They have just added a host of old roses to their website along with those they carried last year. They even have a few recurrent antiques including Devoniensis and Bouquet D'Or. Like Pickerings, they bud on multiflora. For the last couple of years I have been buying from them and I have been enormously impressed by the quality of their plants, especially the vigor with which they grow once spring comes. On top of all that, they're remarkably gracious to deal with. I just placed my own order with them a few minutes ago!

I've been ordering from Pickering for years and was distressed when they couldn't ship to the US this past year. Glad to hear they can ship again! I've always had good sized plants and their multiflora root stock does better in my clay soil than Dr Huey and many own-root roses.

With the loss of so many rose sources it really is good news indeed.

Rosefolly, Palatine is offering a number of Gallicas.

Diane, thanks for the suggestion. They don't have 'La Belle Sultane', the gallica that suckers for me the worst, but I might be able to get a couple of the others from them.

Yay! I haven't ordered from Pickering in a long time, and I was so bummed that I couldn't pick up the ones I'd been meaning to get. I'll make sure to go on and order them and not wait forever like I tend to do on big orders.
