| I dont think we always had the same world view..
But frankly I miss his honesty at times. There are many posts here that a few Jim W NY inserts could use =P .
But he loved and adored and rebutted about the use of antique roses many times, and he was right alot of times as well.
Anybody know?
Thank you,
Silverkelt

I've heard from Aimee recently. She's working and rather busy with her life, but doing fine. Jim is also a member of the RHA, but haven't seen him there in a while. I'll try emailing him to see if I can let him know he's missed! Thanks. Kim

Jim's harping on Kordes roses got me to looking at them, and I am glad about that. It gets kinda boring here when everyone agrees, anyway. :)

I'm in contact with Robert (rjlinva) ... talked to him yesterday, as a matter of fact. I will have to remind him to pop in here from time to time.

I was just thinking about Pete----what name does he use now---he was always a bright spot on the Forums--- I was also wondering about Robert-----I'm not here as much as I used to be--(don't have much gardening to talk about) and really would not want to post pictures of my neglected roses. But I still like to read about everyone's roses Florence

Florence, I'm glad you are here. I'm no good at all with a camera so I don't have pictures up as well. That's ok. We're all here because we like roses. I wasn't feeling well earlier this year and the garden got out of control. Life happens. Now I'm better and have a little energy. I went out and planted a few from my pot village today which felt good.

Greetings, everyone! I know that I hadn't posted in such a long time, but, I have been reading posts somewhat regularly. I've had a recent life change...I have taken a new job in northern VA, so I am no longer at my house with all my roses. I had to get rid of the alpacas as well. I am sure I will miss the roses. At this time I am now in an apartment, so I don't grow any roses up here. I still have my house which I intend to rent or sell. I've been away for a month now, and the roses keep on growing without me. Robert

Robert, I'm glad you posted. I hope you like your new job and you get some more roses sometime.

Glad you said Hi to all of us. If you sell your house I'm sure they would let you come back for cuttings once you buy another. I still remember the day your goats got out and ate all the rose leaves. Every winter I wish I had a goat.

Robert, glad to hear from you. Where are you in NVA? Is it close to my area? Olga |

Robert--so nice to see your name---I do hope you will soon be able to grow roses---I loved watching your garden mature. I hope your new job and location is a good move for you and you are happy--- Please post again so we know how you are doing----I miss your stories. Thank you Kitty----I miss all our old crowd---so many changes here Florence

Robert, I hope you continue to post. I was disappointed when you left us. I am still teaching, and it is more difficult now than ever. Our kids are victims of all the tax cuts and crowded classroom. Sammy

I miss Jim too and I 'm sorry I left his e-mail address on my job computer when I retired. I also miss Stefan Lura, Roch Rollin, and several others.

Jim just posted in the other forum.....sounds like he had been away for awhile & wasn't privvy to all of our summer lamenting over tough conditions.

Robert: You might be able to do as I have done - I'm also in an apartment, and had roses in pots on my balcony for a while, but in the end they did not thrive (too much increasing shade, for one thing), and I had to give them away. BUT -- I still get my rose fix by volunteering at the Historic Rose Garden in the Old Sacramento City Cemetery once a week, so it's like I have LOTS of Old Roses. There may not be such a place where you are, but maybe you could do something in that line. As to my own roses, I just think what a lot of fun that was while it lasted! Laura
RE: Whatever happened to Jim from NY?

Yeah, I absolutely agree - the spirit of the garden is very strong and is not dependent on ownership. The actual doing seems essential and this can take place anywhere, including within your own head. It can reside in writing, in pictures, in public or private spaces so take photos, plan, volunteer somewhere and vicariously participate in other gardens.....somehow. Life in an apartment cannot diminish the spitit of the garden.

Jim W. is here! Still Living in Upstate NY in an old house just learned it was built in 1790! Remodeled numerous times and still doing it. As to roses I'm on a new project. Last summer with the help of my wife I built a large Pergola 8x24 feet. I'm in the process of wading through page by page my new copy of the ARS Encyclopedia of roses. To choose the new candidates.

Campanula---that was very beautifully put !!---I agree with you but you are much more eloquent than I could be.--- Do to age and health problems most of my gardening is done through other people's gardens---pictures ---books etc. Good h to hear from you Jim---- Robert----please keep in touch--- Florence |
