 o
Sizes of Alfred Colomb and Comte de Chambord?

I've been eyeing some "historic" roses and can't seem to get a clear fix on how tall and wide they get.

Can you help me out with Alfred Colomb and Comte de Chambord?

Any other helpful information about them will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kate

I only have C. de Ch. It gets 3-4 ft tall for me in my z4 area so probably a little taller for you in z6 as HMF lists it as 3-5 ft tall. Has good winter hardiness for me, only top 50% or less cane die back. Has good disease resistance (BS & PM) but the spider mites like it in hot dry periods & Japanese Beetles like the flowers.

Thank you, wirosarian. Very helpful information (except the spider mites--not much of a Japanese Beetle problem here, thank goodness). About the right height and glad to hear about good disease resistance.

Guess I should have asked if it blooms and re-blooms well.

Does it look more like a shrub rose in overall general appearance? Or more like an overgrown HT shape? Or maybe grandiflora like Earth Song?

Would love to hear something about Alfred Colomb also. I just love that darker shade of bloom.

Good first bloom flush & a nice rebloom but not quite as heavy as the 1st bloom. Grows a little taller than wide for me. I do have Earth Song & C de C is a little taller & narrower than ES in my garden but we are 2 zones different so may be different for you.

Here Comte de Chambourd grows narrow and straight up about 6-7 feet and blooms up at the top. Prune it lower and it bolts back up before flowering. Also in my garden this rose was chlorotic, so now it is gone. In a different climate with a less alkaline soil I believe it to be a much better rose than it was here.

I have never grown Alfred Colomb.
