Can you recommend a climber?

Antique rose Emporium is having a special if you buy the book Empress of the Garden you get a free rose. I'm going to treat myself to the book and with this promotion I get a free rose of my choice! I know I can call them for advice, but I thought I would shout out here first and see if you have any advice or if you feel I shouldn't even plant a climber here. This climber would go center behind Mrs. Dudley Cross and Mrs. B. R. Cant. I want this to be a well behaved climber, meaning I don't want it to be too wide, instead stay close to the fence since the two roses in front of it can get quite large.
My two teas are 4 ft from the fence and 10 ft apart. The climber will be planted a foot or so from the fence in between these teas, and I am hoping for a nice backdrop. My teas are new this year but so far they are growing away from the fence towards the sun, so I feel I have room to do this. Here's a picture so you can see where it will go. Mrs. Dudley Cross is still quite small on the left, and Mrs. B. R. Cant is on the right. No color preference, disease resistent is a plus!

What a beautiful spot! I love the white fence. Crepuscule is touted by many as floriferous and fragrant. It is listed as a mannerly climber in Empress of the garden. However, I think it's out of stock on ARE. Craimoisi Superior is not technically a climber but I have seen numerous pictures of this rose eating fences in a beautiful way. Peggy Martin is also beautiful. I don't grow it. But I have seen it growing on a beautiful white fence similar to yours.
I hope these suggestions can be of some help to you.

Is that an in store only sale?

I should be on their email list but don't see an email from them

Peggy Martin! I never even considered her because of her size, but then I googled Peggy Martin on a fence and I'm sold! Even though she is vigorous she looks like she's manageable in all the pictures I saw, and I can train her to run down the fence line. To the right of Mrs. B. R. Cant is Marie Van Houte and then Multabillis so if Peggy heads down in that direction she will be stunning behind them all! Craimoisi Superior by the way was already on my wishlist, but I plan to grow her as a shrub, but I'll likely wait til next spring for her. Thank you, I'm sold!

Happy to help Mz Stitch. I think I need a Peggy Martin now too.
Kippy, they can only process the free rose deal on the phone. So you would have to call. Phoey for me I already bought this book more than a year ago.

I'm really looking forward to the book. I've only been a rose grower for 7 years now, and I want this book to bring me to the next level of knowledge on antique roses. I feel it will help me make better selections for my climate. I'm looking to learn more about the different growth habits and personalities of the plants and it sounds like this book will do that for me. I also want to stop planting mistakes!

I was given a cutting of Peggy Martin this past spring and I left her in the pot for about a month and then put her in the ground and she has taken off like a weed! She has 4 new canes about 2-3 ft that I am pillared to a post. You will love her lax canes with very few thorns. I have heard she is a one time bloomer in the south but will bloom more in a more mild climate. I have no doubt that if you plant her she will cover your fence in no time. I also have 3 climbing pinkies that are growing like crazy and are all almost 8-9 ft tall.

I picked up a copy the last time I was at the Huntington and I very much enjoy Empress of the Garden. Getting a rose along with purchase is a wonderful incentive for those who don't yet have it. It's wonderful for how many of its photos are landscape/full bush shots and not just pictures of blooms. And because it shines a positive light on the Tea class unlike some other books focusing on old roses.

As far as a climber, perhaps Reve d'Or or the already mentioned Crepuscule?

Boncrow thats great news about your Peggy Martin! I'm becoming more and more excited about getting her. I've read she gives a great full flush early on but that it lasts quite a while, so I'm good with that, and it will be a treat if she gives me a few blooms here and there later on. Jay thats great to hear the book has alot of full bush shots as I often have problems finding alot of full bush shots online when making a decision on a selection. I've purchased a few roses over the last few years for thier bloom, and am disappointed with their growth pattern. I'm trying to avoid that going forward. Its alot of work planting a rose in my heavy red clay, so once its planted its staying!
