General Gallieni

New for us but even as a baby in a 7 gallon pot has already had 3 flushes in its first year. I can't bring myself to remove blooms so I just let them do their thing.

The coloring of GG changes with the weather. The blooms have great substance and heat has no impact on them.

I'm impressed! Mine seems off to a much slower start than yours. It is in partial shade, which I cannot correct until another year passes (long story).

Looking at yours encourages me.

I love the General, too. (You know he is a parent of Rosette Delizy, right?)

Everything I see of these roses makes me more certain that the Nabonnand roses are terrific for our SoCal South-Coast gardens.

BTW -- Almost 15 years ago, we planted roses at a local historic site. We were there Sunday for a 5K run, and I was so pleased to see that, despite all the recent heat, Rosette Delizy and Mme. Berkeley were in full bloom. What troupers those roses are!

Fantastic Jeri! I was sent the General by mistake and I'm glad I kept him....

He has flowered more prolifically and repeated faster then our other 9 Teas.

Jeri, your comment about R Delizy just made my wish list 1 rose longer.

He is a beautiful rose. And you just gotta love a rose with a good attitude.

Gallieni was the French general who was famous for using a "taxicab army" in the defense of France in WWI. About which he is supposed to have said, "Well, at least here we have something that is not banal"...

It's been growing more rapidly here in the heat this summer I've noticed. Oddly enough, my mom received her GG by mistake as well. Gilbert Nabonnand was the intended rose, but we're both happy with the mistake at this point. Nice shots.

If anyone in northern VA/DC would like a GG, e-mail me. Mine is losing a battle with a maple tree and there's no other reasonably sunny spot to move him. (He's too big to mail).

How funny - I received the General by mistake, as well, several years ago when I tried to order Gilbert Nabonnand from Rogue Valley Roses. But it turned out to have such strong, healthy growth and reliable blooms, I never complained! It's been such a great rose for me, I even transplanted it when I moved.
