Is there anyone going?

I would love to go, already have a dozen on my wish list (only hope for a couple) But was wondering if anyone from SoCal is going to attend?

I am trying to figure a way to make it up for the day and hope to meet you both there.

Well, am not going to make it.

Ended up spending my fun money on the *&^$%# chicken house (again)

Anita, I am so sorry to be missing it.

I had tried to work it in with a trip up north, but ended up having to change dates due to a work conflict. So then I thought I could clear a day or two for myself. Do some nursery visits on the way up and take a few days off.....

Then Mom reminded me about fall being the time to paint the coop and change it to sand. And I had been putting that off anyway. I figured no problem. Sunday clean add sand (build a box too) Monday plaint and replace some wire and done! And Sunday I was off to a good start, it was so hot/windy/dry that the coop was ready to paint. But dealing with the wire took 3 days and then I decided to fix the paver walk around it too... so make that 4 days

It started out as a $300 foo foo coop 3 years ago, but with the run, new wire etc, I bet I am in to it another $500.

But, we have the fort knox of chicken coops! And fresh paint.

Next year I am coming!

All you need now is a nice big climbing rose to cover the roof of that fine coop.

But of course Kitty! And I even have one purchased for it and then got to thinking that the battle is not against big varmints but the little rodent kind, rats.

There are a lot of wonderful things about an old neighborhood with a lot of extra large lots and old homes. But there is also the downside of too many too large fruit trees, too much over grown and neighbors that have also had animals(ducks-chickens-goats-etc) or love feeding the wild birds. Rats love it. And with about everyone working on fixing up their homes and yards, or giving up on their "farm" animals as they age mean lots of hungry rodents. They run down the top of the fence from I have no idea where and try to break in to coop-we set traps on their route and keep picking them off.

Until that scourge is gone, no vines on the house or coop roof for us.

That's frustrating. I was working on pruning one time in the big Madame Issac P. at the corner and got startled by a possum skeleton. Poor old possum had died right under my beautiful rose. I just put some flowers on him and then some leaves and soil. Wild possums only live a few years around here. It's spooky seeing a skull where you don't expect it. I wouldn't like to be startled by a rat running on a metal roof.
