Mine gets a fair bit of shade and it does matter. Her spring growth and flush are good while the trees have been leafing out. But then she's dead in the water all summer. Robin Hood, around a curve from her and in even more shade just keeps putting out.

Here, she is better where she gets a little shade in the afternoon heat.

Thanks for the input. I'm sitting here musing -- I searched some of the old threads and found a couple posts by myself and a couple others in which we lamented what a BSer she was. I had forgotten how bad she was. I eventually moved her to full sun--all day--and while she has a few BS problems, it is nothing like what she used to experience--as long as I keep her well-watered.

I'm not sure now whether it was age (she was young and vulnerable to BS; now she is older and healthier?) or location (earlier, she was in part sun/part shade vs now she is in full sun) that makes the difference, but since she is no longer a disease-magnet (as in worst BSer in the garden), maybe I better not mess with her but just keep on watering her in her current location. : )

I still like the idea of Robin Hood for the other place I have in mind, but then I realized that the nursery I'm trying to place an order with doesn't carry Robin Hood. Oh, heck! So now I'm considering Cornelia--we'll see how that works out.

Back to the drawing board. Thanks again, folks.

Well, it's lovely HERE. Not sure how that translates to me. Blackspot, for instance, is RARELY seen here in any volume. Blackspot and rust are our problems.

Because blackspot is a problem in a much wider area, I have often bought roses touted as "disease-free," only to discover that they mildewed and/or rusted like demons.

Thanks, Jeri, for your comments on Cornelia. I'm finding quite a few sources that rate her highly.

It is so hard to imagine any place that is largely blackspot-free--not that Kansas is the worst place imaginable, but we do get "attacks" in the spring and fall.

Oh, Kate -- We're a freaking DESERT! No warm humidity, no blackspot.

The only times we see it is when a bit of a tropical system wanders up here from Mexico. But the natural flora on our rough, rocky hillsides is PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS.
